There's a chance that Windows 7 is amazing, I wouldn't know. I've always been a Mac person and if you want a computer for personal use (but not gaming) then it's great. PC are more standard if there is a lot of work use you need out of it, but Macs are sleeker, more reliable, and offer better software for things like pictures, music, videos, etc.

i have been lucky with the virus thing. i havent gotten one in a while :knock on wood: i use a antivirus called antivir personal edition, its free and it seems to catch them all, anyway i dont like the mac operating system and mac doesnt have the same variety of programs that mac has...for example i am in archtiecture, autocad does not support mac, with adobe photoshop i get all i need for image editing, and you cant beat windows office...what else do you need?

No real reason. I've used both, and just prefer PC.

If you are into pc gaming there is no other choice. Be smart/safe with your pc, take the time to reformat every now and again. In my lifetime with pc's (roughly 10 years) I have never had a major problem, once my pc starting slowing down I reformatted and everything was good as new. I don't even use a virus protection other than what windows itself provided.

Windows Office on a mac = a pain in the ass
I hate that my college recently changed 85% of the computers to macs on campus

But it depends on what you are using it for. I do a lot of home recording/demoing of music as well as a fair bit of photo editing etc... so a Mac is fairly superior when it comes to media, design etc..

If you're a hardcore gamer (i'm not so it's not an issue), forget about it, you need a PC. As for all other media, Mac has it licked.

The main difference I find being a Mac user at home (still use PC's at work obviously), is the stability of the platform. A mac, even if struggling with processing etc.., will invariably get the job done. PC's, are prone to crashing in similar circumstances. That is just my opinion. Perhaps Windows 7 (good initial reviews) will address these shortcomings...

Windows 7 is good and if you're careful and don't mess up your PC you should be fine. Get AVG virus protection and set it to do a scan once a day, if it ever finds a problem, deal with it immediately.

What do you want to use it for? Are there specific programs that you really need? If not, then make the switch. I've switched completely away from windows since about 2002 or so (although I initially switched to Linux, later picked up a Mac as well) and never looked back. I did buy a Gamecube, Wii and PS3 for my gaming needs though smile. Windows still has an insane amount of games exclusive to that OS.

Prefer PC so much.

But for basic use if you aren't willing to occasionally virus scan/take care of your computer then mac is fine. Tons of people use them.. all the programs you need for basic stuff is there.. so yeah.

I have both PC and OSX (mac) at my house and am always on the PC
