Re: Creed tickets -just 75 cents- in Birmingham

Relevance. Poison still makes all their money off of what they did in the 1980s, while Bon Jovi had hits in the 90s and the 00s, updated themselves fairly regularly, and while Slippery When Wet is still huge they get by on their modern music as well.

Creed is cookie cutter post grunge. Poison is cookie cutter 80s glam. Bon Jovi does not fit cleanly into any category other than rock - they are not glam, they are not hair metal, they are not alternative, they are quite simply rock.

And selling more albums and being able to sell concerts longer does make a difference. Or is there no difference between GNR and LA Guns?

You're saying Creed isn't the same, but my point on them is that they haven't been given time or a chance to prove one way or another that they can't have more hits.  Frankly Creed music isn't really any different than the Nickelback stuff that's been dominating radio for some time now.  That's not even counting in the nostalgia factor that really hasn't had a chance to develop for them yet.

I know just as many people that are excited that Creed got back together as I do as give a shit about Bon Jovi.  If Bon Jovi came to town their tickets would sell better because of the nostalgia factor for the cookie cutter 80's glam stuff.

To an extent your arguement has merit right now because of the country crossover thing I already mentioned.  But between 1989 and 2005 it was just as uncool to be into Bon Jovi as it is to be into Creed right now.  If Creed keeps making music for the next 20 years they have just as big of a chance to do similiar things.

All that aside though, my point in saying they're all the same was that they're just pop rock bands.  Even with the country crossover all Bon Jovi is doing is adjusting to what is pop right now rather than staying the exact same kind of pop that they were.  That might have been your point all along, but they're still just a pop act with more guitar.  If it was the late 70's that would have been a disco album.  Which is what keeps them in the category with those other bands to me.

I agree with CC.  Comparing Creed to Bon Jovi is quite ignorant.  Bon Jovi is one of the few bands that survived the Grunge scene

They did now.  I think the diffrence between what I'm saying and what you guys are saying is that I'm comparing Creed right now to Bon Jovi circa 1994-95.

In 1994 Bon Jovi had a single that spent 6 months in the top 10 of the billboard hot 100. Not mainstream rock or some other category, 6 months in the top 10 of all music. That's comparable to Creed right now? A new song from Creed couldn't spend 6 months in the top 100 let alone the top 10. In 1995 Bon Jovi had 4 different songs to make the top 10 on the charts.

Yeah, they were really hated then.

Yeah, I think 3rd Eye Blind put an album out recently, which didn't do very much. As others said, Limp Bizkit, even Korn fell off the face of the earth. Basically the whole Post-Grunge scene was all smoke & Mirrors. There really wasn't much legit out there. Which is why there was such a great indie rock scene (Sebadoh, Pavement, Ani DiFranco)

As for Bon Jovi, he was an unknown in 94-95. I couldn't even tell you what song it was that was a "Top 5 song" in 94. Although I'll admit comparing him to Creed is a bit stretching it, but it's not that bad of an analogy. People were laughing at BJ in the 90's & even the girls moved on to U2 & PJ.

Seriously?  I don't remember that at all.  I knew they kept putting out music, but I don't remember anything being popular.

Maybe the entire base to my arguement is completely off then....  How were thier tours selling at that point?

Also, is that worldwide and not in America?  I know a lot of other parts of the world were more forgiving than America was to 80's era bands.

Edit:  I got off baseline from my original arguement, because all I was really saying is that they're both just pop-rock bands, the fact that Bon Jovi has stayed a pop-rock band for a long time doesn't change that.

Their tour did real good.  Well at least they didn't have to sell tix 75 cents.  *lol*  They sold out a few stadiums even in 9495 including Wembley.
