Yeah that was hilarious, and the joke is still milked to this day and quite a few of the members here probably have no idea what we're talking about.
In mid 2005, some guy on the website Sp1at posted a theory of his that I was Paul Tobias and just disguising myself using this name. At that point, I had never even posted there before and the only GNR site I was at was HTGTH. Only reason I found out is my PM box at HTGTH became overloaded with people asking if I was indeed Paul.
I wish I had saved that post because he made a REALLY good case that I was Tobias. 
I have no idea who it was. If he ever lurks here, hopefully he signs up.
nobody copied anything from tobias....and definitely not tracii. Tobias has 2 credits on original/old school gnr songs (back off bitch and shadow of your love), that is it. Just look at the list I posted for the 12th time!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I think it's absurd that the discussion even veered in that direction, and even more absurd that a long time member got their panties in a bunch over it. There has never been ANYTHING to lead anyone in the direction that Tobias or Tracii played some huge(pun intended) role in the old band. Also, this "theory" is always mentioned by those not too fond of Slash. I doubt that is a coincidence.
You can search everything on that site so speculation and conjecture are useless.
Yeah it's a great site. Found an unreleased M.I.A. track on there. The song she performed this year isn't even on there yet, but this other song is. I assume this is being prepped for a soundtrack or something of that nature.

as for the ascap lists that copperye posted...i think whats happening here is similar to the UYI credits. song ideas and lyrics/melodies get major kudos in the liner notes and royalty payments are another animal, they are acknowledged by ASCAP for legal reasons
