Just read this in the Gnr forum:

If a deep album cut from Heart's Bad Animals can chart, then just about anything can.

Do you guys think that's a good thing? wink

I kind of do, because it gives the charts a chance to be about what people are really buying right now, and not just what some gakked-up record company exec decided to spunk his end-of-tax-year money on, or some reality show shite that's been hyped into the top of the charts.

(and that's not to be negative, I like a lot of new release chart music, just saying those as a bad example of what the old charts were about in the days of physical singles/CDs etc being released.)

Informed comments/opinions anyone? 22

Indifferent, I guess.

People listen to 95% crap, so the charts can be affected as such, no different than radio.

singles charts maybe but album charts definately not.  People aren't buying albums anymore and it's patehtic and if they are they aren't lsitening to them. People base their favorite bands and artists on singles not albums. Lady Gaga has the #1 selling album of 2009 I think and I'll bet you 95% of the goofs who bought that album probably couldn't tell you the name of any song on it other than Love Game, Poker Face, , Paparazzi and Just Dance which happen to be the singles. I know people don't listen to albums anymore because of what gets requested in the club when I dj. The latest single is what gets requested. It doesn't matter if Lady Gaga sold 5 million copies in her first week the only fucking song anyone would ask for is Just Dance.  In this case Just Dance happens to be the best of her singles but a alot of times(Rihanna for example) the first single isn't the best and if the best song on the album isn't released untill the 3rd or  4th single it won't get requested untill it's actually released as that single. It's pathetic but I think it's a glaring example of the attitude of todays' music buying public. Even though they are buying albums they're still only listening to which ever song is being played on radio at the time.   Use November Rain for example. That song was being requested months and months before it was released as a single.  Why? cause people back in the day actually bought albums to listen to the whole thing.

Sorry for the rant
