Re: Things To Do In Chicago?
I was at a Cubs game on Sept. 12, and Bradley is such an asshole to the fans, that if he catches the final out of an inning, he has to give the ball to the grounds crew to throw into the stands. He won't do it himself. I was in the club box seats, 7 rows back, and he caught the final out of the 5th or 6th inning, and there were kids leaning over, calling his name, asking for him to toss the ball. He throws it to a grounds crew guy who just about took it in the face because he didn't expect it. He's an asshole. I hope his days in Chicago are done.
Re: Things To Do In Chicago?
I hope so too, but I doubt it. All because Jim Hendry has a hard-on for the guy. We couldn't have Adam Dunn who was practically throwing his services at us to avoid playing for the Nats. We couldn't have Raul Ibanez who's found renewed life in Philly. We couldn't have Bobby Abreu...
No we need BRADLEY. One of the worst head cases in recent memory to play pro ball.
Although Bradley hasn't spent more than one season with a single team in the past 5 seasons or so, problem is Bradley has had a sub-par season and was signed for 3 years, like $30 somethin million.
At this point, what GM in their right mind would take Bradley for 2 years, at that price, after his 2009 season?
The Cubs will either have to give him away and eat a ton of his contract (Sosa to Orioles situation), or flat out release him, and eat it. But, if it comes to down to just releasing Bradley, something tells me they'll just keep him and see how it goes. They could always "just release" him if it gets too bad.
It doesn't help that Soriano & Fukudome have both been busts.

I've always felt that Bradley needed to be in a lower stress enviroment in order to thrive. When he gets in a big market problems usually follow-whether it be media, fans, perceived slights etc, it doesn't help that he's an asshole as well. The only thing that Bradley has done well is have a good OBP.
As far as teams interested in Bradley--Sabean in SF is still around and Dayton Moore of KC just got an extension despite putting together a 100 loss team.
They really should have just signed Abreu for 4 million or whatever he ended up with.
The Cubs are lucky that they play in a division with a bunch of rebuilding teams-Reds, Pirates, Astros. That leaves the Brewers and Cardinals as main competition. If they need pitching help though, they should not go into the FA pool this year--it is a subpar year for starting pitchers. I'm not sure they have enough prospects to get into the inevitable Halladay sweepstakes.
Re: Things To Do In Chicago?
The Cubs won't get into the SP market imo in the off season. Ken Rosenthal was just talking today, about the Cubs trying to shop Zambrano this off season, just to unload that salary, and use it to manuever more.
If the Cubs are seriously thinking about trading Z, I highly doubt they'll comtemplate going after Halladay. Not really sure what they'll do to be honest, unless they are going to just rely on what they have (Lilly, Demp, Marshall, Wells, new guy), and instead focus on bolstering that bullpen in order to counterbalance.
Rosenthal also alluded to Bradley being possible to move. It shocks me, but like you said, Giants & Royals are serious options. I also agree that Bradley does better in less stress environments (Texas).
If the Cubs can get someone to take on his contract, moving Fukudome could be a legit option also. Soriano isn't going anywhere with the off-season surgery, and that huge contract.
I think next season the Cubs will primarily target bolstering that offense... again. They need a new CF, RF, and possibly 2B, unless they're gonna bank on Baker for the full-time job next season. One option for the OF, could be putting Jake Fox in RF full-time next season, and look for a new CF.
