Re: Pearl Jam Confirms Target Tie-Up
Saw them on Conan tonight, they played a song off the new album. Still didn't like it. I still haven't heard anything as good as Ten, and haven't heard any good songs since the mid-90's from them.
To be the only grunge band to survive, not to slight PJ fans, but just about everyone of the other Seattle bands were far more worthy.

I used to love Pearl Jam back in the day. Stopped following them in the late 90's, although I did see them live for the first time last year and they kicked ass. I didn't really dig what I saw of the song from last night, but it was only a first listen. Repetition might help.
This article mentions GNR's exclusive, and how disastrous it was.

Pearl Jam has sold the exclusive rights to the release of their next album `Backspacer` to Target in the USA.
Instead of making the new widely available, Pearl Jam will follow the strategy set by the Eagles and later AC/DC and Guns n Roses to release their album through a single chain.
The strategy is high risk. It was a disaster for albums by Guns n Roses and Christina Aguilera but a huge success for AC/DC and the Eagles.
While exclusive bricks and mortar rights will go to Target, Pearl Jam will also sell the album directly from their tenclub.com website.
No expense is being spared on the marketing. A television advertisement for the album was shot last week under the direction of Cameron Crowe.
Pearl Jam will debut a song from the album this week on Conan O’Brien’s new tonight show.

Is there a "Pearl Jam" thread? I couldn't find one, seemed kind of odd. Anyway, now THIS is how you sell an album.

I gotta say, I like PJ, ALOT... but the new song backspacer is just bland. And, I heard another song from the album, Superman or something, it wasn't much better.
Gotta admit the treat their fans awesome though. No denying that.
Really? I've only heard the single so far. I think it's okay. But I might by the album just to get the Hartford, CT show as a download since I was there and Eddie dedicated "Elderly Woman Behind the Counter at a Small Country Store" to my hometown and current town during the show.
Re: Pearl Jam Confirms Target Tie-Up
Yeah, it was pretty wierd. An intern at a local radio station was at a college record store, and found the Backspacer single on vinyl. So the DJ played the b-side to it. Myb the song won't be on the album though. Anyway, it sounded very similar to Backspacer. Not like a ripoff, but that same sounds. If you like it, you'd like it, if you don't, you prob won't. jmho.
