been looking to check out some zakk wylde, considering his links/flirtation with Guns. i already have some of his Ozzy work but am looking to get into his solo stuff just to investigate what the craic is.
but i dunno what BLS record is meant to be their best or most accessible...
and what about the Pride & Glory, should i try tracking it down?

"Mafia" is my fav

"Pride and glory" is cool...its like a metal meets southern rock

"Sonic Brew" is pretty bad ass as well...

you could also check out "kings of damnation" which is a GH up to right before Mafia...it includes some book of shadows and pride and glory as well as other cool tracks from the BLS discog thats where i started big_smile

I couldn't recommend Book Of Shadows any higher.  That one is just a Zakk album, no band name.  It's laid back, just fantastic songwriting.  A lot of things are up on youtube, if you wanna get an idea, I'd start poking around there.

I've described Pride And Glory as Skynnrd meets Sabbath, for about 15 years now, if that sounds like something you'd be into it's definitely worth picking up.

Sonic Brew and Stronger Than Death are my two favorite BLS albums, but even the worst ones are pretty good.

I think it depends what kind of reason you are getting into him.

Are you a metal head overall? A guitar nut? Just curious?

I'd recommend starting with Sonic Brew....as to me there's a lot of classic zakk stuff, it's heavy as hell - lots of squeeling and shreddding - but I think the song structures are more approachable than on some of thoe other albums where if you don't have a heavy music background it might just be overwhelming.....

Another idea would be to check out some of the DVD footage out there.

Sonic Brew is their most badass record. Get that.

EDIT: Althouhg if you wanna start off with what is possibly their worse (still good) but most accessible material go for Shot To Hell.

i couldn't agree with this entire post more...

the blessed hellride is pretty fucking strong as well.....

if you're curious too see what kind of songwriting impact he would have had on guns.... definitely start with book of shadows and sonic brew... definitely his finest moments.... and this comes from me... i have the BLS logo tattooed on the back of my neck.... 22

wow. cheers for the advice. i think i'll go with tyler & jorge, but more so tyler - tht's intense, man.

going to go to hmv today. they've had a load of BLS albums for a while now which is why i couldn't decide - if they'd had just the one or two i'd have bought them by now.

i'm a big skynrd & even bigger sabbath (sabbath are probably in my top 5 ever these days) fan so defo going to check pride & glory asap. Book of Shadows is going to be the first stop off though.
cheers guys. got my list. now all i need is some money...
