Re: Top Ten Ways To Ruin A Song
Wow... I think all of the things above make a good song.
just kidding
Sometimes over indulgence, over production, and just outright Spinal Tap-ish moments, make a song killer imo.
But the two i'll agree with wholeheartedly are the Top-2. Bad lyrics, and auto tune - fuck off.
Especially with auto tune. I can't turn on the fuckin "hits" radio today, without hearing every goddamn song be auto tune. You can't even tell the artists apart anymore.
Re: Top Ten Ways To Ruin A Song
Yeah, but isn't that expected in a sense?
Most people know going into a cover, that it's never gonna hold up to the original, and the ones that do, usually just copy the original.
not necessarily. if i ask 10 random music listeners who plays knockin' on heavens door, guess what they'll say. i know it's just an example but good covers do come around once in a while.
just like russ said, disturbed's one is nice (though i'm a disturbed fan so my opinion might be subjective). and to stick to gnr, live and let die is, in my book, a great cover.

As critical as I get of Knockin' On Heaven's Door in it's studio form... most people i've met think Live and Let Die & KOHD are Guns N' Roses songs.
Hell, even Paul McCartney's kid went up to him and told him it was so cool that he covered a GN'R song.
