Re: Rob Zombie to remake 'The Blob'
My intention is not to have a big red blobby thing -- that's the first thing I want to change
THEN WHY THE FUCK IS IT GONNA BE CALLED THE BLOB! Are you gonna reveal that under all that blob its white trash Michael's long lost cousin!
Re: Rob Zombie to remake 'The Blob'
Part of the charm of the original Blob was the cornball 50's drive-in aspect of it.
To do something like that in the present day, is hard to not come across as a complete joke. Really hard.
And it's up to Rob fucking Zombie, who is a GD hack.
How many people over the years have tried to recreate Night of the Living Dead, and failed hard at it? Even Tom Savini's solid 1990 remake, was a bit hokey in certain places.
The new Blob will be no different. If anything, it'll make H2 look good.
Re: Rob Zombie to remake 'The Blob'
I think Zombie could make a pretty cool "grindhouse" version of The Blob... And of course, his wife will play the stripper who never actually gets naked.
I think you're being a little harsh on RZ. I think the best thing he could do is totally reinvent The Blob to his vision (and why remake a film in the first pace if you're not going to do that?). Halloween is a hard film to reinvent... I personally thought the original was way overrated...
*ducks*
I liked the style of his Halloween. What hurt him was the times he tried to stay faithful to it. I liked the white trash aspect, and all of his orginal ideas he brought to it, they were probably the best parts of the film to me, but they just didn't fit in that movie, if that makes any sense. Little Michael Myers never should have been fleshed out like he was; showing his face, letting him talk. That killed the movie for me.
Re: Rob Zombie to remake 'The Blob'
Diff'rent strokes. I HATED the white trash aspect of it. It's become SOOOO predictable with Zombie.
Dug House of 1,000 Corpses, Loved Devil's Rejects... because at the time, they were their own films. Zombie went astray with Halloween. I think his biggest problem was he tried to make it his own, not stayed true to it.
If you want Zombie's "pure vision" for Halloween... see Halloween II. Frankly, it wasn't much better. The only thing i'd say in defense of H2, is that it's a more consistent film, because of the fact Zombie's doing his thing. Unlike Halloween 2007, which is just a clusterfuck from start to finish.
Zombie's Halloween I & II just aren't good. At all.
I just think Zombie doing a "Grindhouse" version of The Blob would be another snore. I was not a fan of "Grindhouse", as in the Robert Rodriguez/Zombie/Quentin Tarentino collab. The thing fucking sucked imo. The only standout was Kurt Russell's amazing performance in Death Proof, and what was he on screen for... like 10 minutes?
As for "Grindhouse" as in 'the real' Grindhouse style from back in the day... it was a format of it's time. It's cliche and hokey today.
Re: Rob Zombie to remake 'The Blob'
Zombie not using Trailer Trash is like Scorcese not using gangsters.
The look of the Grindhouse films were great. Were they great films? No, they were good, not great. But the style was excellent and fit the films. That's what I was getting at.
And the original Halloweens aren't much better. So his versions actually fit the franchise perfectly
disclaimer: I do respect the original, even though I'm not a fan.
