Re: GnREvolution Television Madness - Discussion and Results Thread
Yeah, it saved the tournament by winning. IMHO though "Cheers" was the best show ever made. It really dated now, which makes it tough to watch unfortunately. MWC had some rough years towards the end, so it's prime was about 87-92. Cheers was in it's prime from 84-92. I guess it's only 3 extra years, but MWC also didn't take off until about 89. Even after Cheers went off I would watch the reruns religiously every night. The writing, storylines, quick witty one-liners, execellent character development (The jock, the nerd, the barfly, the women who can't find the right man, the woman who settled early & was knocked up to all the wrong men, the smart guy who never fit in). Just I felt a little bit like all of them, yet at the same time alot like Frasier, who was my favortie character yet I never watched his following show.
Just my opinion, anyone else care to list their fave & why??

Married... is my favorite sitcom, so I happy with the result. I pretty much feel the way you do Snow, but reverse. See, I could never get into Cheers, because I could never connect with the characters. I never could relate. Married... on the other hand, was a show I could totally relate to, especially the male characters. Grew up middle-to-low class, and completely understood the context of the series, because I lived it. It's white trash comedy at a refined purity. Al Bundy was a hero to alot of men, just because he was an icon. I think was also made Al Bundy different, was he was sexist, and irritated with his wife and kids, but at the end of the day, when the show took a serious vibe - he still loved them. He wasn't an Archie Bunker with the whole bigoted thing, he wasn't hateful. He was just a man looking for his ship, and to have a little fun doing it away from the grind. In the later years, when more stories focused around the 'gang', as in Al, Jefferson, Griff, Bud, etc. even still... that's pretty much every male group i've ever seen.
I thought Married... was terrific hokey satire of the blue collar white family, while at the same time paying homage to them, not insulting them.
As for this contest...
I still think Miami Vice or Dallas should've won it all. jmho
