Re: Best Album of the 80s Elimination- Final Round
Was eliminated in the last round.
Metallica fans shouldn't be pissed. Top 3 is an amazing placing considering everything it went up against.
Would also like to say we're gonna do the "B list" 80s elimination next. Since I tallied up that B list a couple weeks ago to show people want didn't make it in this, its easy to get it started. No new nomination process needed.
Now.....
The final showdown:
1. "Wanna Be Startin' Somethin"
2. "Baby Be Mine" (Rod Temperton)
3. "The Girl Is Mine"
4. "Thriller"
5. "Beat It"
6. "Billie Jean"
7. "Human Nature"
8. "P.Y.T. (Pretty Young Thing)"
9. "The Lady in My Life"
Release date: November 30th, 1982
Label: Epic
VS
"Hells Bells"
"Shoot to Thrill"
"What Do You Do for Money Honey"
"Givin the Dog a Bone"
"Let Me Put My Love into You"
"Back in Black"
"You Shook Me All Night Long"
"Have a Drink on Me"
"Shake a Leg"
"Rock and Roll Ain't Noise Pollution"
Release date: July 25th, 1980
Label: Atlantic

Tough choice for me, and its funny this is the final round as I prefer the albums by these artists released before these two monster records.
After listening to both last night and a bit of Back in Black today, I'm gonna lean towards AC/DC and vote for that. Yes you can make an easy case for Thriller as it just took the entire planet by storm and does have killer tracks, but AC/DC was able to recover from Bon's death and released this right after Highway to Hell and its like they didn't even skip a beat.
Both albums still sound phenomenal even almost 30 years after release. I wouldn't be disappointed at the prospect of either winning.
Re: Best Album of the 80s Elimination- Final Round
Both albums are stellar. BUT !!! listening back to them yesterday one thing hit me. Back in Black sounds like it was recorded yesterday. It sounds fresh. If it was released as is tomorrow it would become an instant classic. Thriller sounds somewhat dated to me. This may be unfair because it is the synth sounds that make it sound so and Ac/Dc never used much synths (if any). And don't get me wrong I'm pro anything when its done right.
Any album with Back in Black, Hells Bells, You shook me all night long AND Shoot to thrill though is a monster album.
Im goin Ac/Dc. I'll vote off Thriller
