Re: Slash Myspace, Facebook, and Twitter updates
This picture shows how I feel right now about certain people in "the big garbage can" called the Internet:

Re: Slash Myspace, Facebook, and Twitter updates
To be fair though...given the way we talk....if that show had featured one big Jam session with Steven, Slash, Richard and Dizzy....we'd be taking that as a sign either that a renuion is imminant (except maybe with Richard filling in for Izzy) and/or that Richard and Dizzy have been fired from the band or quit the band and/or that GNR is finished etc.....all of which are apparently false...so they might just be trying to do some rumour control in advance.
Re: Slash Myspace, Facebook, and Twitter updates
I see Eric Romano on mygnr conveyed an email from Fernando re. the Viper Room thing saying:
According to Fernando (received by e-mail): "never happened".
Wouldn't be the first time that twitter and/or facebook information turns out to be false.
Nobody as far as I could see had posted saying they took the stage together? The guys live in LA it's no surpise they might end up at the same joint sooner or later.
Eric then posted again later saying:
Talked with Beta a little earlier tonight.
Were they at the Viper room? YES
Did they play together? NO
I guess Fernando's e-mail this morning mentionning "never happened" simply meant that they did not play together.
What surprises me is these bloody people are so fucken obsessed with Slash that they will come out of the wood work to stop anybody implying that these guys were getting on a stage together or heaven forbid being grown up and cordial to each other (even though I hadn't seen that said other than people highlighting the fact they were playing the same venue on the same night). BUT ask them where the fuck Axl is, or the Better video, a tour , or the video responses to fans etc and they are conspicuously silent.
I don't understand it??? Commenting on non GNR shit like this yet refusing to comment on important GNR things makes no sense to me???
Here's the reason. If a reunion were to ever happen, or ever be close to happening, alot of pieces would have to come together, obviously. Big business would get involved, handlers (real ones) would get involved, and the freight train that is Guns N' Fuckin' Roses would have several hands in the cookie jar that would control every aspect of it.... real business people. People that would chew up and spit out Beta, Fernando & Del, over their cheese sandwich 15-minute snack break at 9am in the morning at work.
They know that.
They have to do everything they can to, A) sandbag any whiff of a reunion, and B) make sure their worth stays valid in the business of GN'R as it exists today.
A reunion happens? Day one, those guys are out on their fuckin' asses. Bank it.

Why would it have to be an either/or situation?
Let's say Axl woke up today and thought it's possible to salvage his friendship with Slash and Slash decided to compromise with Axl today, and they started talking and it went well.
Axl could still keep beta as his assistant and so on....just as slash would keep perla around as his manager or whatever....
I don't really see why who is in the band really needs to effect who the support and personal staff are....
Re: Slash Myspace, Facebook, and Twitter updates
As personal friends, i'm sure they would get kept around. But on a business level, they'd be gone.
NO ONE would deal with Beta. Not gonna happen. Even Perla with Slash... same thing. Obviously Slash isn't gonna get divorced, and Axl isn't going to give up the good friend in Beta. That's cool. But on a business level, they'd be in over their heads, and the powers that be would never allow it.
Understand, when Fernando hangs out with GN'R now, and Del is like, road manager, or some shit, Axl is king. They get all of those little perks, because they are buddies with the main man. A reunion happens, and suddenly the main man, becomes four main men, in theory (Axl, Slash, Izzy & Duff), all of which have their little circles.
Would Axl's inner circle still be around on a friendship level? Yes. But on a business level, they'd be so out of the loop, and at the very beginning. First things first, Slash would NEVER allow Del to be their road manager for "the band" at this point. Axl might keep him on as an assistant, but the direct involvement would be gone.
I could go on and on, but in a short-form way - Axl's "circle" would still be there - for Axl. Right now, they represent themselves as Guns N' Roses. Well, since the late 90's, Guns N' Roses has been - W. Axl Rose. But with a reunion, Guns N' Roses once again, becomes a band with multiple figures, as well as business folks that'll control it from top-to-bottom, especially if a Irving Azoff is there at the ground up.
You can have your little friends, but Azoff is gonna have his people in there controlling that shit inside and out, and those people will become nothing more than who gets you your EXTRA lean roast beef and Chedder Sour Cream Ruffles at the end of each show. They WILL NOT be speaking on behalf of GN'R or handling their affairs.
Right now, they are right in the middle of the 'brand name' Guns N' Roses. Being involved with that tag alone, is far bigger than the name Axl Rose alone. That's where the "keeping their positions" theory comes into play.
If Axl was that big, he'd of never needed the name in the first place.
Re: Slash Myspace, Facebook, and Twitter updates
Yes the key is that the business side of things really needs to be handled PROFESSIONALLY.
That is nothing against Beta and her kids or Del etc but unfortuantely at times their actions have appeared to be less than professional. Whether it's defending Axl by attacking fans on forums or getting ex A&R guys thrown out of a club - whilst their support for Axl is admirable it's not exactly a wise move from a business perspective.
I suppose that's the difficulty when you have friends/family effectively employed by you to operate on a business level as well. Sometimes the line between friend and business gets blurred. I would imagine it's difficult to take off your "friend" hat and let shit said about Axl slide, but they need to recognise that the way things have been they effectively represent Axl and the GNR name too, so their actions are a direct reflection on that also.
Ditto goes for Perla and some of the things she says and does.
Whilst these people will obviously always be there (friends and family) I think wherever possible it's healthy to separate them from business dealings, more often than not it tends to end in disaster if you don't. People just get too emotionally involved in the situation and can't look at things objectively and professionally.

Re: Slash Myspace, Facebook, and Twitter updates
I get what you guys are saying but I'm thinking if it came down to it people may compromise.
Azoff and the music guys are big fucking players in the game do doubt, but they also are going to need the co-operation of the talent, and there's a saying in showbusiness of doing whatever needs to be done to get the peformers on stage.
If it came down to it, and the friendships were fixed, and a full blown AFD line up was in the works, worldwide tour, follow up record, hundreds of millions of dollars on the table....and the only stumbling block is that in order to procede Axl demands that they let some of his family/friend eg Beta...have administative rolls in the process....who in their right might from managment is going to tell him "no" and have him pack up shop and the process return to dorminant status.
It'd make more sence to let those people do their thing, and if you're worried about the results have a team of sub ordinates to fix problems or handle the other business stuff.
That's all hypothetical of course. But I'm just saying, Axl is the man with the power in GNR, in a renuion situation, when everyone stands to make a lot of money from it, then they'd be lining up to play ball on whatever terms axl says.

I think what you have said there is the key. Currently Axl holds the power since he seems to be the only one anti a reunion. Consequently his list of contract stipulations and riders could be a mile long. BUT as time continues to drag on and Slash's individual star continues to shine and grow (who knows how big he could be after his solo album comes out) the dynamics start to change. Slash will probably tour his solo album in some capacity pretty heavily too. Consequently Slash's need for a reunion continues to diminish as he develops his own niche and relevance in today's music business.
Couple this with the fact that as these guys get even older the value of a reunion gets somewhat diminised due to the presence of zimmerframes and wheel chairs (exaggeration but you get my point). Sure the nostalgic factor will always be saleable but the older they are the less chance of getting together and any NEW music coming from it etc. They are hardly going to set the world on fire again or stick a rocket up the music business as 50-60 year olds.
What I am bascially saying is Axl's bargaining power in a reunion continues to decrease on a daily basis. It's directly proporational to Slash's reducing need for a reunion and personal music success and star status. He may be able to call a lot of the shots on the terms and conditions of a reunion but that won't be the case forever, that will change - in fact it may have already!!
BTW I don't think a reunion is currently in progress either just speculating too on the dynamics of one.
Re: Slash Myspace, Facebook, and Twitter updates
As for who hold the power, Aussie, Axl's power is not decreasing, Axl's power has hit its bottom. Axl right now, has as much power as the NAME - Guns N' Roses - provides him.
It's the ONLY thing he has in his back pocket, the name alone. In hind sight, it ended up being a BRILLIANT move on his part to secure the name from the others, as it's protected his interests.
At this point, there is probably someone out there, that would actually lay a pretty penny on Axl, just to license the name Guns N' Roses, with everyone else, without Axl, just to keep making money off of Guns N' Roses.
Axl only has the name. He's fucking done in the business, at least on a 'significant' level. Slash is a bigger star now, alone, than Axl alone, he doesn't have Chinese Democracy. There's absolutely NO interest in his new Guns touring (otherwise you'd have a world tour right now), etc. I could go on and on.
Right now, the only negotiating power he has is that name, and i'm sure one day, if he continues to sit on his ass, someone will come along, and offer him a fortune, just for him to sell the name to them.
It really is a shame. It's a shame, that we have 40 somethings, all ready and willing to rock, even Izzy, as well as two drummers licking their lips, everyone wants to do this, and Axl's still sitting there. The world could once again experience the REAL Guns N' Roses, and Axl's own inner drama, won't allow it.
Aussie referred to it, the window is closing. Day by day. The jackpot for the reunion will get smaller and smaller, interest will fade, and even if Axl revives another new Guns, the interest will be club-sized at best.
I know at times, it seems I measure everything on popularity, and what someone else thinks. I think with a business perception, I can't help that. But frankly, I just want to rock. Even if it's just them touring around, playing the hits. To have that memory of them, restored, would be better, than the bad taste i've had in my mouth for the last decade and a half.
Hell, i'd take a "Guns N' Roses: The Hello & Farewell World Tour", which is a reunion/farewell tour. One more time, one more album, and then off into the sunset.
But Axl wanting, even just another 5 years, the interest will be significantly lower, than it is now. In some ways, i'm shocked they didn't do anything in 2006. The last couple years, reunions have been HOT business, and other than Led Zeppelin & Van Halen, there aren't many more out there demanded, than GN'R. Axl doesn't care.
