Re: Best Album of the 80s Elimination- Round 14
And as I said before, I'm not really a "U2 fan" perse. But I do think that particular album is amazing and one of the best of the 80s
I'm with you on that. When U2 is on they are ON (Joshua Tree, Achtung Baby, Beautiful Day etc)

I just can't stand U2 because they have been shoved down my throat from such a young age. If your Irish you have to love U2 . I say fuck that....
I mean in the press this year there was such a big deal about the 360 tour just because the stage could be viewed from all round.
Many articles I read even went as far as to say it was a groundbreaking new idea that U2 had invented.Correct me if Im wrong but Def leppard had a tour back in the 80s called "In the Round" where the stage could be viewed from all 360 degrees also. Difference was their stage setup was much better and even the drum riser could rotate so that they actually played to all four corners of the arena in the course of a show.
Furthermore Im sure that Leppard were not the first to do that either.
It just seems U2 are this untouchable golden goose. They don't appeal to me musically. I shouldn't have to like them just because I am told to.
Not knocking anyone who does like them here though
I really do understand where you're coming from. I know it's not quite the same, but I get that shit with Kid Rock & Seger because I live in Detroit. People fall ALL over themselves about both of those guys. They're constantly trying to shove them down my throat. I can't DJ a gig or play with the band without someone acting like it's sacrilege that I won't play tunes by either of them.
My new response is "Oh, no, we don't do tunes by them. I prefer my Detroit musicians to have actual talent, like say JACK WHITE"
I've also heard stories about people from Memphis having a natural inclination to dislike Elvis because they grow up with him ALL around them.

you guys are hitting the nail on the head. my girlfriends dad is irish (born in america tho) and his taste in music has as much related to u2 as i'm related to fucking bono, but he still claims to be a u2 fan. he went out and bought the new album, listened to two songs, said it was great, and put it away forever. can't stand it.

^ When you vote for "Looney Toons" over "Star Trek", you lose the right to say that.
