Re: Slash Begins Recording for his Solo Album
James Lofton wrote:In other words, Slash never listened to his music. Or probably downloaded Monsters and Robots and assumed all his trillion albums were the same.
Yeah he was real sketchy with his answer. He was asked about what he thought of Bucket and he said he never heard him play. Then a minute later his story changed and said he heard some of his stuff and he was a good technical player but didn't play with any emotion.
So yeah, I doubt he really listened, or else didn't give him a fair chance because of his affiliation with his former band.
Slash changed his story a minute later?! That's a first.*lol* Will start his biography this weekend. Should be a blast to read. Can't wait.
Re: Slash Begins Recording for his Solo Album
I didn't realize how amazing Bucket is until I heard Chinese Democracy.
His solos on The Blues, TWAT, If the World, Sorry, IRS, and Prostitute are all top-notch.
I love his playing.
I haven't been moved by the other stuff I've heard by him. Not hating it or anything, just not my cup of tea. He has so much stuff, though, that I keep trying to find some of his work that I enjoy.
1. I'm always in the need for new, good music.
2. People whose opinions I respect highly swear by him.
Many people told me: "Electric Tears, Electric Tears!!!"
I listened to it on YouTube and was bored to tears. I just don't get it. :shrugs:
Unfortunately, I guess I'm a bit of a Rockist, in the sense that I enjoy songs with lyrics.
I know Bucket has some stuff with vocalists (Enter the Chicken maybe?).
Can any one recommend a short list of Buckethead stuff that sounds like the solo from "If the World"?
Sorry for the long, off-topic post ...
Re: Slash Begins Recording for his Solo Album
Oh!
My point was that what Slash said is the common perception of Buckethead: that he is an emotionless robotic shredder like Satriani (puke) or Malmsteen (gag, choke).
I agree with James and Faldor. Slash probably had never really heard Bucket play when he made that comment on Stern.
Is Chinese Democracy the best Buckethead album?

Is Chinese Democracy the best Buckethead album?
Absolutely not.
Colma
Population Override
Condensed Chicken Noodles
A Real Diamond in the Rough
Praxis- Transmutation
Check those out. Surprised you didn't like Electric Tears.
Enter the Chicken sucks.
Re: Slash Begins Recording for his Solo Album
I'm with Fat-Drunk on Bucket. I love his playing on CD, and even love some stuff I've heard from Enter the Chicken. Probably because those songs have words to them. I just can't get into all out instrumentals. Though I did really enjoy his Michael Jackson tribute.

Re: Slash Begins Recording for his Solo Album
I don't really get into instrumentals enough to get into entire buckethead albums as preferable to CD, but I will say that specific songs are awesome. Nottingham Lace and Soothsayer come to mind....amazing melodies and some very technical guitar work...gets into that trancending thing where it trips you out listening to them. If anything I wish there had been more of that kind of stuff on CD, twat is sortof like it...but not quite.
Re: Slash Begins Recording for his Solo Album
Are you supposed to smoke pot before you listen to his stuff?
Funny, but probably true to an extent. Drugs definitely heighten the experience. I no longer smoke dope, but I take pills and it definitely sets the mood.
I hated Madagascar for years, and one night in 2007 while stoned off my ass on vicodin, I was listening to the version at Rio and that solo just 'spoke' to me. A moment of clarity if you will. Had he built an entire song around that Maddy solo at Rio, it would have put me in a trance.
