Re: Best Album of the 80s Elimination- Round 1
i dont hink thats its we hate female artists, but female artists tend to be more flash in the pan, its not often that female artists have any staying power
what about the defining song of the 80's?

Nice! I got to see a 80's hair metal cover band (Aquanett) every so often with my friends and they rock "The Final Countdown" quite well.
I don't think you could call Madonna, Janet Jackson, or Whitney Houston flash in the pans. Even the Go Go's or The Bangles had as much lasting success as some "rock" artists on this list. I'm sure I'm forgetting some female groups/artists too.

A personal favorite of mine from the 80's that didn't have a chance in hell of making the list was Martika, who worked with Prince in the early 90's.
One hit wonder. Although she did have a 2nd hit in the early 90's, can't remember what it was right now. Wasn't she in Kids Incorporated too or something?!

Yeah she'd definitely be classified as a one hit wonder, though I liked a bunch of other songs from her first album and she actually had some mild success with some other singles. I did miss her 2nd supposed hit though, "Love,,, Thy Will Be Done". It couldn't have been that big a hit.
Here's all the Martika information you'll ever need and then some from wikipedia.

Huh, yeah, I can't say that song sounds familiar. Myb I'm thinking of someone else. A song I always liked from those times were Edie Brickell's 'What I Am'.
In fact, she had a song Circle of Friends in the early 90's, I might be thinking of her.
