Re: Best Album of the 80s Elimination- Round 1
still kick had six singles: Need You Tonight, Devil Inside, New Sensation, Never Tear Us Apart, Kick, Mystify
I was never a big fan, but yeah that stuff reminds me of 9th grade. Those 6 hits off 1 album, unheard of nowadays. Never Tear us Apart & Devil Inside were huge too. Fwiw a great early INXS song is "Change". I never heard it until a friend told me about it last year, wasn't a big hit, but their first one.

Licensed to Ill.
Can't believe She's So Unusual didn't make it. There's a female album that should have. Or Escape? It went diamond and has the most downloaded song in iTunes history!
That's pretty metro of you.
j/k, I was just thinking, if any femaile album made it, I guess it'd have to be one of Madonna's first. But I don't know, even that might not be that great. Would only have lasted a round or two I'm sure. Plus in case you haven't noticed this isn't a big Madonna forum, though MJ rocks the house bro. Holla!
License to ill rocks, whatchu talking 'bout?

Whatevs.
I'm not too comfortable with that either. Another record that should have made it is Like A Virgin.
Still cant believe I'm the only person that nominated Harrison's Cloud Nine.
A bunch of records barely missed out. Escape only needed one more vote to contend, and so did quite a few other albums(Lauper included).
We may do a "rejects version" of this after the initial elimination is over.
There were just too many good records that decade.
Re: Best Album of the 80s Elimination- Round 1
skid row ........man, I am pissed I didn't make an actual list because some drop dead classics are left off here for some rather trivial albums....like Skid Row!
Yeah, as one of the older members here, you definitely needed to properly represent the decade with a thorough list. You nominating just a few more would have pushed the chaff out.

Dude, Youth Gone Wild, 18 and Life & I Remember You were pretty big fuckin' hits in the melodic rock era.
There's definitely some upsets on this list, that have NO business on there. I don't think Skid is one of them (I did with Slave in the 90's), but the ones that stick out are NIN, Jane's Addiction.. come on, only rock geeks were listening to that shit.
THREE Metallica albums? Seriously? I mean, yes, I nominated four of them, but I never thought three of the four would even make it. I just made a master list of great albums. Three is too much. They didn't even make mainstream take notice, until they did "One".
I'm not saying any of these are bad albums. But popular culture does have to have some effect on what gets in there. Obviously Death Angel's Frolic In The Park isn't the right choice, ya know?
Where's MJ's Bad, or Madonna, or Culture Club, or Phil Collins or Genesis or Peter Gabriel or Dire Straits, and the list goes on and on.

Here's the "B list", and like I mentioned above, we may do this after the current one is over.
Prince- Purple Rain
Twisted Sister- Stay Hungry
Aerosmith- Permanent Vacation
Faith No More- The Real Thing
Journey- Escape
Huey Lews and the News- Sports
Tom Petty- Full Moon Fever
Motley Crue- Theater of Pain
Metallica- Kill Em All
Bon Jovi- New Jersey
Megadeth- Peace Sells
Motley Crue- Shout at the Devil
Tears for Fears- Songs from the Big Chair
Genesis- Invisible Touch
Phil Collins- No Jacket Required
Culture Club- Colour By Numbers
Bryan Adams- Reckless
David Bowie- Let's Dance
Slayer- Reign in Blood
Poison- Open Up and Say Ahh...
U2- War
Michael Jackson- Bad
Anthrax- Among the Living
Cyndi Lauper- She's So Unusual
Billy Idol- Rebel Yell
Funny that even when going into a B list, Evo still has difficulty mining for pussy. Lauper only gets in by somehow securing the 20th slot. There would need to be some sort of tie breaker among the Poison- Billy Idol records, and I have a feeling MJ would sneak in.
I find it odd that the GNR fan base as a whole doesn't seem too fond of female artists.
Re: Best Album of the 80s Elimination- Round 1
Wow this board really hates female artists huh? Madonna, Janet Jackson, etc. didn't even make the B list? That's insane! We may have to do a female ONLY elimination list since they stand no chance on this male dominated board. A personal favorite of mine from the 80's that didn't have a chance in hell of making the list was Martika, who worked with Prince in the early 90's.
Oh an I forgot to mention, my vote is for Jane's Addiction.
