Re: Best Album of the 80s Elimination- Round 1
This one is going to be crazy. Just spent over an hour tallying up these votes, and it definitely didn't turn out like I expected. It is a damn solid list, but there are many glaring absences from this, most notably crucial, decade defining albums such as Escape, Sports, Songs From the Big Chair, Invisible Touch, Born in the USA, So, Like A Virgin, Purple Rain, Green, Rebel Yell, Tattoo You, Whitney, End of the Innocence,etc. Hell, this decade is so amazing you could do an elimination of classics that didn't make the final cut, and it would be just as interesting as the real one. 
Have a few points to make before this kicks off:
Gotta give props to Baz. He takes some shit from some people here(including me), but he once again makes it into an elimination here. Shows that regardless of how people feel about his attitude, they certainly love the guys music.
ONCE again, NO female artists make it into an elimination, and this is insanity considering the fact this one is the 80s. I still cant believe that M.I.A. is the ONLY female artist to make it into an Evo elimination or Madness series, and if I had never pimped her ass here for almost three years even that wouldn't have happened. Yeah she's amazing, but let's be real. She's not the only woman who deserves to be in contention in these showdowns.
For the first time ever, Chris Cornell/Soundgarden does not make it into an elimination/Madness tourney. I'm gonna chalk this up to it not being a well known album, and while I am a Cornell nutswinger through and through, even I will admit it wouldn't have deserved to go up against these monster albums(although I do prefer Louder than Love over a couple albums up there).
Before a Wacko Jacko nutswinger chimes in saying Thriller already won, I can tell you from counting all the totals that it most certainly is not a lock for victory, and in fact I don't think it should even be favored to make it to the final four. It might make it, but it has plenty of obstacles in its path.
GNR was not eligible for this specific elimination. We may do a bonus round after the final round for shits and giggles just to see how the winner fares against AFD. For the record, had GNR been eligible, Lies would not have made it.
The last three albums to squeeze in did so by me doing random selections among those tied. I did not play favorites. If I did, Purple Rain would have made it in instead of Jane's Addiction.
Most interesting aspect of this is how rock is once again dominating it. I know you can say, "no shit, its a rock themed site". Well that's true but each elimination has been a great snapshot of that decade's culture. 2000s was a melting pot like the decade is, the 90s was a grunge vs hard rock showdown, and the 80s should have been littered with pop acts going up against some of the hard rock juggernauts.
I know we have quite a few people here in their teens/early 20s who may not have heard all these records and only know the hits. I hope you will at least go to your torrent of choice(or Itunes) and have at least a brief listen to these albums.
Thanks to all those who participate(including guests/lurkers who only observe). With GNR deader than Abe Lincoln at the moment, I actually look forward to these music tourneys and Madness series more than I do checking the GNR sections.
Let the games begin......
I'm voting Skid Row. Its the only album that truly sticks out like a sore thumb on this list, and I cant hardly believe it made the cut over so many other superior albums.

Only reason this is considered an 80s record is because of its release date. Album got zero recognition until mid 1991. Trent is lucky that caught on.

Pretty solid list of albums. On a personal level I think USA & Purple Rain should've beat out NIN & Jane's, as they weren't 'popular' until the 90's, but I guess they deserve credit for being ahead of their time. Especially NIN.

still kick had six singles: Need You Tonight, Devil Inside, New Sensation, Never Tear Us Apart, Kick, Mystify
it is a great album, of that list i gotta say beastie's, never really been a fan of them at all

Aside from some rock hardcore's on this site and others... NIN were never all that popular, and music not all that good in comparison to the albums that are up there.
What's the travesty, is how a fuckin' NIN album gets on the 80's elimination, when Minstry isn't there at all.
Anyways, all of the albums up there own NIN.
