Re: How House Bill Runs Over Grandma
Haha, over.
OK, so the total cost of that hospital visit was $310,000.
Totally nuts.
Shit. No wonder I'm staying single and staying the fuck away from parenthood.

Fuck...$15,000 (or higher) out of pocket for you just for the physical act of having kids...never mind the cost of providing for them over time.
Re: How House Bill Runs Over Grandma
Yeah, bri has discussed his nightmare regarding his childrens benefits back when it happened. To quote Bill Clinton, I certainly feel your pain. You certainly should not have got the shit end of the stick on that. Like Ronald Reagan, I believe the government isn't the solution to our problems, it IS the problem. Instead of entering a Soviet Bear era, I think the government needs to build a bridge to these insurance companies, drug companies, etc. so a middle ground can be established. Price capping has to be step one, and we know they are willing to go that route. Instead of big brother wanting it all, work with these groups and see if compromises are put on the table.
Oh, and universal health care absolutely cannot exist without tort reform of some sort. Give us a band aid solution(medicaid) while those sorts of things are dealt with.
It doesn't have to be all or nothing.

Re: How House Bill Runs Over Grandma
James, I agree about tort reform. That's a necessary step in the process of improving the healthcare system. But, as an 18 year old guy from a rust belt city suburb, I know that once I'm independent of my parents I'm probably not going to have health care. I won't be able to afford anything other than whatever job I might have could provide me with. I just want an option, and I'm willing to pay for it in increased taxes (or out of pocket for personal insurance but I couldn't have it at anything near current costs). I don't want the government to run every facet of medicine but I'd love a basic care program to get me through those mid-20s years.
Re: How House Bill Runs Over Grandma
You know, as a Scandinavian, this is very very alien to me.
Health insurance? 45 million Americans without health insurance? Bigbri's kid not getting proper care?
I mean, what the fuck is this?
Norway's system ain't perfect. Far from it.
But listen. My mother recently went to the hospital for a breast cancer scan. These scans are offered, for free, to anyone over 50 in the entire country. She took one and they discovered abnormalities, meaning she needed more tests, more checks. This was in the end of may.
Now she's had light surgery and will recieve proper radiation treatment for around two months.
It was all fast, painless and it was taken care of at an early stage.
And then I stop and think;
What if she was an American middle aged woman with no health insurance?
My mom has no real education. Just high school and some work related courses. She would most likely fall into the faulty US system, not affording proper treatment for the cancer.
But since she lived in a country, which (I hate to admit it, the socialists actually have done a decent job with.) There's room for MASSIVE improvement, but at least I do not have to think about "affording" any health treatment. I KNOW I will be given the treatment I need. It's not even an issue. Fine, there might be a que..but at least I'll get it.
This healthcare stuff I see from the States now. Putting Hitler mustache on Obama, how you trash the British system as evil and all this grandma stuff that people will decide if grandma dies or not...well..it sort of make you look like idiots. I am sorry for that because some of the greatest thoughts and thinkers come from USA, but apperantly the republicans are very good in scaring people shitless with this socialist/commie/nazi bullshit. Especially the lowlifes at Fox News. Fuck them.
If they think this Obamacare idea is a bad idea, then I would invite anyone over here to see how it's run. We have full healthcover for our ENTIRE population. Bigbri's kid would NOT be in this trouble here. Trust me.
How the news here do represent you as ignorant idiots with no knowledge of healthcare CAN work is really sad, as I do love the American idea of living. The individual freedom and so on. But this has to be one of the most stupid things I've ever seen coming out of your country. Even I, as a righty (in Norwegian terms that is) understands that socialism isn't ALL bad.
Re: How House Bill Runs Over Grandma
i was discussing about the high cost of medical care with my best friend a while ago and we were wondering where that cost comes from exactly?
is it the medicine that you receive, is it the tests? any why would the tests be that expensive? i mean, the machines are there, all you have to do is push a few buttons to make them work, right? it's not like they have to buy new machines for every pacient.
so, i get that the costs should include medical staff wages, electricity and other maintenance costs but still?? where do these costs come from? 310.000$ for a couple of weeks in a hospital? wow
