a preference for uyi 1 over uyi2 (save for the above two posters).

I think this is because of the prevalence of Axl nutswingers on the other boards. They cite big Axl ballads like breakdown, civil war, and estranged as the best tunes of the two records, while non nutswingers cite rockers like Don't Damn Me, Coma, DTJ, and Dust N Bones.

Of course this is a major generalization, but I think there is some truth to it.

Cool - I got labeled as an Axl nutswinger!  I don't get that every day.

No, I don't think that's it. I actually think it's primarily this board has the ability to put on the "real world" sunglasses and see the albums for what they are.

They realize UYI I has more material at 16 tracks versus UYI II's 14. They also realize that the UYI I filler, like You Ain't The First, Back Off Bitch, Garden of Eden, & Bad Apples are better than UYI II's Get In The Ring, Shotgun Blues, So Fine & My World.

It doesn't help UYI II's cause, when with those tracks leveled out, UYI II still has a pointless alternate-lyrics version of Don't Cry sitting there, while UYI I still have Dead Horse & Coma sitting on the tail end of that album.

I don't think UYI I crushes UYI II by any means, but I will acknowledge that UYI I is better than UYI II, pound for pound, and I say that as someone who thinks CD is the best GN'R album since AFD. So how's that for Axl nutswinging (even though it's not intended).

As for the Black album... I think it's better than UYI II. I think Dirt is better than UYI II. But I also know of a BIG crowd of people to this day, that look at "And Justice For All" as Metallica's 'final' album, and HATE with a passion the Black album.

I personally have never understood it, but for every GN'R hater out there, that slams the UYI albums as "it's not AFD", there's an equal number of haters that slam the Black album as a "sellout".

As am I. Neither of those records are the best of the 90s, the only album still left that deserves that title is the Black Album.

Same here. I still cant believe we're not getting a Soundgarden-GNR showdown.

This played out exactly as I said it would if Soundgarden was removed from the equation.

i don't know what you'd expect from a gnr board? honestly.

it's my favorite band out of all the music ever recorded/released and i voted based on what i like not what the world thinks it's better.

maybe the other albums are better technically, lyrics wise, whatever. the music on uyi is what "speaks" to me and i'm gonna support those records no matter what you'd put up against them.

i don't understand why people call certain songs filler and when they start dropping names only songs that i like come up. for example, axlin08 named you ain't the first, back off bitch, garden of eden, bad apples, get in the ring and so fine as fillers. i like all those songs. a lot. and the don't cry alt. version, too.

gnr only has 3 great albums (if you judge by popularity). if people would expect those albums to lose on a best albums battle then why would you call gnr your favorite band? aren't you a fan of the music? i mean, if these albums aren't the best, only appetite is left, and i get that many are here because of that album, but the illusions are responsible for a huge amount of fans too.

and i think i'm inclined to consider uyi2 my favorite but it's gonna be a really really hard choice.
