Axlin08 described Ten in a nutshell. First half is amazing, second half borders on filler. Although that speaks more to the quality of the first half than it does the second.

Vedder's songwriting on this album is untouchable.

When listening to this album, it just makes me realize what a huge loss Andrew Wood was. Had he not died, Pearl Jam wouldn't have existed yet we would have pretty much got this album with just Wood and of course his lyrics.

I can also understand why BLS and a few others despise the band. It is definitely the sappiest grunge album.

I don't despise Ten, but i'm with BLS. Where's the love for Dirt?

I think it's amazing album, and THE BEST grunge album to exist from that genre. So many classics, Them Bones, Dam That River, Rain When I Die, Down In A Hole, Rooster, God Smack, Hate To Feel, Angry Chair, Would?...

That album might be the best up there. And even the stuff I didn't list, is still suicide-inducing heavy shit.

Them Bones is killer as is Rooster, after that, I would have to go with Ten as well. From what is left, I think UYI II has the best of the best songs. Of course, it has the worst of the worst too. But, in the end, Civil War, 14 Years, Breakdown, Locomotive, Estranged, and You Could Be Mine carry the day for me.

what the fuck?
ten and dirt neck and neck for the boot?
two fantastic fucking records.... muthafuckaz best recognize...
i went ahead and voted for UYI 2....
because UYI1, The Black Album, Ten AND Dirt piss all over it....
... and before anyone gets pissed.. i love UYI2... my favorite GNR song is on it....probably 2 or 3 outta my top 10.... but ten is fucking amazing... get the "grunge" label outta your fucking heads... they were only called that because they were from fucking seattle...just listen to it and think "rock"... it's a perfect, emotionally epic, brilliant ROCK record . I agree they were never the same after.. for better or worse... but that album is fucking timeless...

Ditto for dirt... AIC weren't fucking "grunge"... they were a hard rock band with an original vibe that has often been imitated.. but not even close to duplicated...

To be honest... every album up there is timeless... but IMO UYI2 is the weakest of them...

AIC were grunge imo. The difference is, they were like a grunge band that had a Black Sabbath attitude. Soundgarden was another original, that were like grunge meets punk.

Nirvana & Pearl Jam were one song away from being the fuckin' Goo Goo Dolls.
