Bucket ownz.
Re: So where does GN'R stand right now and what is the current news?
I think I'd give a slight edge to the 2002 version, BUT I'd rather have been in the crowd for the 2006 version for the audience participation.
Personally though I think we'll see the best version yet when the next 4 year cycle comes into play next year (2010). Maybe Axl just likes to get out there every 4 years like the Olympics.

Any new-era KOHD sucks. The best was the bloated 11-minute one from the 1992 shows, with Only Women Bleed as an intro.
That era was responsible for the best rendition of the song, although I prefer Osaka 88 over Ritz, but no youtube vid of it unfortunately.
This version aint too shabby either....

By the way, notice the Marlboro shirt on Axl. Like I mentioned in the smoke thread, Axl and Slash were basically walking Marlboro commercials back then.

I really liked the AFD-era KOHD live too.
I never understood why they didn't let that weak ass studio version reflect more of what they were doing live. You can hear parts of the studio cut that sound like the 1991 performances, but it's buried under tons of overproduction, and like triple-vocals from Axl, not to mention that speech thing in the middle, that just makes the song BLOW.
And people bash the reggae solos? The reggae solos were Judas Priest-like compared to the fucking lame speech in the studio cut.
The new era performances are piss break songs, i'm sorry.
