I have always been a bit perplexed by his dislike of most grunge because he grew up in that era. Now obviously not everyone is gonna love everything from that time frame, but a lot of grunge isn't really a huge leap from metal.
As far as Nirvana goes, I like two songs off that record(Come As You Are and Lithium), although Territorial Pissings is tolerable.
My favorite Nirvana song is Heart Shaped Box.
They were overrated. Big time.

I'm more shocked by what's not on the list(Alanis, Achtung Baby) than I am by what's on it.
If Dre was gonna get a first round knockout so bad, I would have preferred we squeeze Alanis into the list to see how she stacks up against all this metal.

PaSnow it's time to take off your flannel and live a little. I can not stand grudge. It just doesn't tickle my fancy at all. I can't relate to the music and how it's offered up. Nirvana might have been the worst thing for rock and roll as a whole when you look back at it. Overrated doesn't begin to explain it. Cobain was not that amazing. Shot himself and he became a saint. When the drummer was the most talented guy in the band. Some songs are alright but no where near the level people make them out to be.
Alice in Chains is about as grudge as I get and I do not think I would consider them grudge. I like a few bands from the era though do not get me wrong. But overall Seattle was the worst thing to happen to heavy music as far as I am concerned. I mean how could I vote for Kurt Cobain over someone as talented as Dimebag? Metal gets no respect what so ever. It's kinda like rich snobs and middle class average joes being the metal fans. People who don't understand metal and how it touches it's fans More than any other kind of music. Where is grudge now? Dead. Metal is still alive. Phil talked to a generation of kids and Dime made his guitar sing like a fucking angel.
Re: Best album of the 90s elimination- Round 2
amen about the metal man....but i'm a nirvana fan as well...have been since nevermind...but saying cobain became a saint when he died like its a bad thing .... same thing happened to dime...nobody gavea rats ass about dime until he was killed...
yeah grunge is dead...and yeah metal lives on but there is worse crap up there than nevermind....NIN comes to mind...and dookie
anyway i gotta give you karma for props to phil and dime hopefully the few pantera fans around here can team up to keep vulgar around for a while
Re: Best album of the 90s elimination- Round 2
People still don't give a shit about Dime dude. There will always a period of putting the saint crown on a guys head after he passed but with Dime the crown was taken off as soon as it was put on. Only the true metal fans keep his spirit alive. I actually listened to Dookie as a youngin. NIN can suck a long one as well. Best thing that came from that band is Johnny Cash covering Hurt and saying his last goodbye literally with a music video. The only other band I can't stand more than Nirvana is The Beatles.. I hear the hate already lol. It's true. I have to be able to feel and connect to my music and the only part of me that connects to Nirvana is the shit in my toilet. Sorry for being so blunt but it's the truth.
Re: Best album of the 90s elimination- Round 2
in utero was a great record... at least it proved they had integrity...
nevermind sounded great... but the reason it exploded was because of how much different it was than what was going on in popular music at the time...i loved it when it came out...the reason i had respect for 'em after that record was because they followed it up with an abrasive, no frills noisy-ass rock record....
was nirvana brilliant? probably not... were they incredible musicians? nope...
but they made a record that was essential.. and timeless...
then they followed it up with IMHO their BEST record.... but vulgar display of power pisses all over both of them... as do at least 10 records on the above list... my pre-teen infatuation with nirvana is long gone... and with my adult eyes and ears, i can put nevermind in perspective.. if courtney love never had him killed, would people still put the record on a pedestal?
probably not....
