Re: And the winner is......

I think I'll post some critic reviews of this album, just for fun.

Allmusic: "Many of the songs sound like they're just on the verge of achieving liftoff, never quite reaching their potential. There are moments, usually arriving in the first half, where Audioslave suddenly, inexplicably clicks, sounding like a band, not a marketer's grand scheme. Still, these moments are few and far between and it's hard to get through this album as a whole. By the end, it's clear that this pairing was a clever idea, but not an inspired one."     3 out of 5

Pitchfork: "Sure, the pulsing noises and rumbling groan that open "Set It Off" sound wicked, and "Bring 'Em Back Alive" and "Getaway Car" almost don't suck. You could even say that, technically, Audioslave "rock". But they do so emptily, predictably, and without a single new idea. Producer Rick Rubin has fashioned a synthesized rock-like product that emits no heat. It's the worst kind of studio rock album, rigorously controlled-- even undercut-- by studio gimmickry; the rare instances during which the band starts to let go (the end of "Shadow on the Sun") are incidental and abruptly cut off. At its worst, this project is just plain retarded... Duck, because America's gonna vomit."      1.7 out of 10

Stylus Magazine: "Lacking individuality, distinction and imagination this album is over-produced, overlong and over-indulgent. Sadly it seems the Rage has left more than just the name of this group, for the time being at least. "       F

NME : "Across a series of big but pretty tired riffs, Chris Cornell sings songs like 'What You Are' or 'Shadow On The Sun' which will more than likely mention the sun or setting things on fire, and occasionally being 'locked away' with some 'problems'. If he were to tell you he were a wizard and he needed an amulet, it wouldn't be all that surprising. Without this righteous fury, it's difficult to know exactly what this new group could do to the machine, except possibly bore it into submission with a load of ponderous rock songs. And what does it all mean? What does this parade of heavyweights amount to? Refreshingly, the answer proves to be nothing very much at all. "        4 out of 10.

here is the top 20 of this decade as voted in this elimination

1. Audioslave- Audioslave
2. Guns N Roses- Chinese Democracy
3. Tool- Lateralus
4. Buckethead- Electric Tears
5. Velvet Revolver- Contraband
6. Megadeth- The System Has Failed
7. Metallica- Death Magnetic
8. Red Hot Chili Peppers- Stadium Arcadium
9. Pantera- Reinventing Steel
10. Audioslave- Out of Exile
11. NIN- With Teeth
12. Eminem- Marshall Mathers LP
13. Stone Temple Pilots- Shangri La Dee Da
14. Avenged Sevenfold- City of Evil
15. Disturbed- The Sickness
16. U2- No Line on the Horizon
17. Muse- Black Holes and Revelations
18. Linkin Park- Hybrid Theory
19. M.I.A. - Kala
20. Godsmack - Awake

i wouldve ranked tool, vr, megadeth, metallica, pantera and stp all above C.D. but the way the elimination unfolded i ended up having to vote for the lesser of 2 evils...bucket stayed around way too long, its just not that good of album imho, and tool shouldve taken it all imo

also there are alot of really great albums that missed the cut like

a perfect circle - mer de noms
a perfect circle - thirteeth step
black label society - mafia
foo fighters - in your honor
green day - american idiot
kasabian - kasabian
megadeth - the world needs a hero
the killers - hot fuss

I'd rank all those at least on par with CD as well

But then there are those of us who really do like CD though.

Really liking it is fine.  A few people might legitimately think it's the 2nd best (or best even) album of the decade so far.  I am 100% behind anyone liking the album.  I just didn't expect there to be enough people that liked it that much to have it make it that far even at a GnR site.

CD wouldn't even get nominated at an impartial site.  I just think overall we're a smarter site than to rank CD #2.  Maybe I'm wrong.

It's not that we think it's the second best. It's just there were albums that we wanted to get out, so we put votes towards those first.

Wow Neemo, I forgot about The Killers. I think Sam's Town is a top 5/Top10 2000's album. American idiot definitely should have made it in & placed Top 5. Also, I think U2's 2001 album was their best effort & also should've finished high. Those were my 2 beef's.

Overall it finished out ok, a bit spotty but I think that's due to "alliance" voting and "Lesser of two evils".

What I find hilarious about all those reviews is not one mentions the good songs. They intentionally zero in on the weaker tracks.

It would be like reviewing UYI II but only name dropping Get in the Ring, Shotgun Blues, and My World and calling it a shit album. Had no idea until now how biased the media was towards this.

I can think of a few albums that came out last year that were better than CD

So can I, but thats not how things work. 16  Its an elimination. Enough people would have to agree on those albums to get them into the elimination, and then everyone has to agree from that point forward.

Like Pasnow said, once you factor in "alliance voting" and things of that nature, all sorts of things happen. Everyone here knows each others tastes and quirks, so that style of voting can happen without anyone even mentioning it. Like on a telepathic level. 16

Would explain Buckethead making it to the final four, which wouldn't have happened anywhere else.

To be fair, James, I didn't post entire reviews, just excerpts from them, but it's true that the ones that didn't like it never spent much time on Cochise or Like a Stone. I still personally prefer Out of Exile, but the S/T is a deserving enough victor.

yeah.. the funny thing about great rock albums...
surprisingly few of them actually reinvent the wheel...they just take something and do it well, or sound fresh...i'm very happy this record won....it did both

for the record... i'm not the biggest fan of like a stone.. the second half of this record is what really makes it special...

I think so, listen to track 10, I think it's called 'River is Wild', it's awesome & could've easily been a huge summer hit.

BH really slid under the radar. I think he benefitted from not getting any "hate" votes, as in "I hate them" that others like STP or Linkin Park got. Admittedly I voted early for Godsmack & Disturbed for this reason. Glad to see RHCP get some props, it's really a great album. 2 discs, s hours, 28 songs. 1/2 newer hits, 1/2 older funk style. Worth a listen if your at all a fan.

speaking of "hate votes" and chilipeppers..... 16

ever since under the bridge, they've fell into a comfort zone and they always churn out the same generic sounding song as their single...that has made me not like them so much...i love BSSM and Mothers milk but everything after sucks balls IMO
