Re: Mischa Barton "Removed From Home," Under Psychiatric Hold

Mischa Barton was removed from her West Hollywood home Wednesday by police, an LAPD spokesperson confirms to Usmagazine.com.

"We responded to her home last night on a medical issue," Officer April Harding tells Us. "We assisted with it. She was removed from her home."

Harding tells Us no 911 call was received, and that she was not sure if Barton, 23, was in distress. When asked if the actress was cooperative, she tells Us: "I guess."

Harding did not release details on where Barton was taken, citing California privacy laws.

But Access Hollywood reports Barton was placed under an involuntary psychiatric hold (also known as a 5150) by the Los Angeles Police Department before being transferred to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center. (According to the code, authorities can hold a person involuntarily if they present a danger to themselves or others. This same code was used to hold Britney Spears twice in Los Angeles in January 2008.)

In a statement, Barton's rep Craig Schneider tells Us: "Police were involved due to Ms. Barton's celebrity status; to ensure her safe transfer to medical treatment for which she remains hospitalized as per the recommendation of her doctor."

A source tells Us Barton called the police herself after having a "freak out."

Barton won't be at the NYC premiere of her new movie, Homecoming, tonight, an event rep tells Us.

The actress -- best known for her role on The O.C. -- was charged in 2008 with DUI and marijuana possession. She was sentenced to 36 months probation, told to attend alcohol education classes and pay a fine.

Barton checked into rehab after the incident, she said, because "I wanted to prove to the court that I would take it completely seriously.

"I went to rehab to prove I was sober," continued Barton in an interview with UK Marie Claire.

She's set to star in Beautiful Life, premiering this fall on the CW.

She was made famous in that soapie "The OC" but I'd seen her when she was a kid actor in some films and thought she could actually act.

She should be a household name like Portman. She is amazingly talented. Like Portman, should have won an Oscar when she was a child(Lawn Dogs). Most people either remember her from the Sixth Sense(the dead girl poisoned by her mom), or The OC, a show I have never watched.

At some point in her teens she got into drugs, and it was just a downward spiral from that point on. Her career choices leave a lot to be desired, and she's probably gonna spend most of her career in B film purgatory.

I recently watched a movie of hers called Walled In, and it was pretty obvious she was coked up during the performance. Her eyes had that 'shine' that only cocaine can provide.

She's great in this film called Pups. Her and some young boy rob a bank and it also stars Burt Reynolds as the cop trying to negotiate with them. Film totally flew under the radar.

That's the film I was thinking of. Previosuly i'd seen her in the OC where she is basicly eye candy (not a fault of hers though - but its a cliche soapie vechile about hot teenagers with lots of cash - the role didnt exactly give her much chance to win awards) but was blown away by that pups movie - it was a great peformance.

I once made out with a girl that looked amazingly like Mischa Barton. It was damn cool. Many years ago now, but I still knew Bartons face.

Wonder how some of these actresses/actors deals just gets fucked up on drugs. Have they no self-control?

They're kids. When you're young and impressionable, EVERYONE wants to be your friend when you're in a line of work like that. Everyone can get you want you want. And they indulge themselves in all sorts of vices, without an adult thought process as to the consequences. By the time they get that... it's too late. They're addicted/dependent, and all of their "friends", have in fact been "enablers" for the longest time, and it's better to have them, than no one. So keep using.

The sad thing is how many kids it's happened to. Look back at The Two Coreys from last year. Corey Haim still hasn't put his life together, and he's getting close to 40. Last year, Tatum O'Neal, despite a revival with Rescue Me, was tempted to buy crack, and stopped.

It never ends. Hopefully Barton doesn't become another statistic.

My personal opinion is some of these people are in fact crazy, regardless of dependency issues. Like the two I mentioned above, as well as Corey Feldman, Danny Boneduce, among dozens others... just let 'em talk awhile. You'll find out how batshit they are quick.
