The sad reality is his death would have very likely occured during this tour had it not happened now.
I agree 1000000000000%, and his death before the tour launch just shows that this farewell tour never should have been attempted.
People act like God was about to take mankind back through a time machine and give us another Thriller tour. Obviously that wasn't going to happen.

There definitely wouldn't have been another Thriller tour, that's for sure.
I think the best (realistic) scenario would have been he came out and did a few good shows before having to cancel the rest of the dates for what would be reported as "health issues".
Maybe a few new songs would be completed and chart. If all went really well for him perhaps some of the "wacko jacko" assimilation with him would die down to a degree and there would be a modest resurgence of interest in his music. That is about the biggest comeback I think that would have been realistic under the best of circumstances. Sadly, given what had been his career for the past decade or so, that would have been a very positive scenario.
As sad as his untimely death is the honest truth is this is the only thing that could have let him "go out" on the highest note possible. The shocking death helped people forget some of the less desirable things that have near destroyed his career.

Yeah, its definitely "revisionist history" mode and people glorifying the good parts, and also assuming he was bringing his "A game" to the table.
Nothing wrong with people praising the good stuff, but people should also ground their expectations into reality. Even MJ(or his handlers) wanted to make this something it couldn't be. 50 shows when he's done zero in eons? Really? Why not one or two to give him a decent buzz and if he can handle it, announce a limited tour?
Its like they felt it had to be all or nothing, and in my opinion that was a huge mistake. Can you imagine the stress he was under being obligated to do 50 shows? MJ is like Michael Jordan in the sense that you expect the absolute best. Mediocrity simply isn't an option. He was lip syncing at this rehearsal. You aren't bringing your "A game" when you are lip syncing, and no amount of fanboy fantasies will change that.
Could he have put on a decent show? Maybe, maybe not. While his dancing did seem to be a bit slow, I don't think that would have turned crowds off. He was 50. No one expected him to moonwalk across the stage with ease. The potential deal breaker would have been the lack of actual vocals, and the media would have been on that like flies on shit. I'm no MJ expert, but I'm pretty sure he has always used backing tracks to a certain degree, but he did used to sing.
He would have had a huge spotlight on that first show.

No, but during the search of his home during the first abuse case they supposedly found a picture of Culkin in his underwear.

I believe Culkin also took the stand during the second trial, as did Corey Feldman, and Emmanuel Lewis, all of which claimed Jackson never did anything inappropriate with them, other than Feldman explaining the story of the porno mags.
As for Jackson's comeback...
Regardless of sales, James made a good point - Michael Jordan.
"This Is It", for concerts, would've been Michael Jackson's "Washington Wizards" comeback moment.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't Michael lip synch often even in his heyday? I've seen plenty of video from years ago that he wasn't singing live during. So I don't put too much into that. I agree the tour was more than likely not gonna go off without a hitch. Way too many shows. But I think he was in decent enough shape to try to pull it off. I'd be willing to bet there's footage from the rehearsal of him looking a lot more spry.
