I bought the Ultimate Collection because I didn't own that much of Michael's stuff even though I always intended to grab some. It's a very solid list of material. I'm really looking forward to hearing the original version (different lyrics) of We Are The World.
I was thinking about buying that one. Either that, or OTW, Thriller & Bad. Combined they'd be about $5 less than his Collection ($30 vs $35) Decisions, decisions decisions..

Hey PaSnow, go the Ultimate Collection. It has the 40 page booklet, the three discs that contain most of his best work and the live dvd...hard to beat.
You're basically getting the best of those three albums as well as the highlights of the Jackson 5 era, a dvd and some cool rarities for five bucks extra!

Thanks for the feedback. Yeah, the Jackson 5 stuff is what stopping me on the individual albums, and B or W is an ok song. Myb there's another song or two I'd like off Dangerous that I'm forgetting. Although, disc 4 looks pretty bad, but I don't know all those songs. I didn't know it came with a dvd, be cool to see some live stuff I suppose.

He's already did it! His sales are actually TOPPING the sales of John Lennon and Elvis Presley following their respective untimely passings. That's very surprising to me.
Not to discount his popularity, but I think it has a lot to do with the 24 hour news cycle culture we live in right now. In the 70's it's possible people were just now finding out about those deaths after 5 days. Today, pretty much everybody knew by the end of Friday. If you didn't, If you turned on a tv at any point during the weekend, you found out.
Plus I would bet a lot of people who originally bought these older albums have them on vinyl or cassette, and his death made them think they should get them on cd. Or even getting mp3's rather than cds I suppose.

Not to take this back into tabloid area, but I've had to study child molestors, and nearly every one of them that are caught have child porn in their possession. Their computers are loaded with it. It comes down to accessibility to it. And they almost always make their own porn with their victims. And when it comes down to it, they aren't going to do something because they're afraid it would send them to prison or bring attention to them... I mean, if we went by that logic, that they had that much control over their "urges", they would never molest anyone because of fear of prison. That's the whole point: they can't control themselves. Some are shrewder than others, in that they kill their victims afterwards so not to get caught. But the majority are all destined to get caught because they can't control themselves. Also, the suggestion that he didn't need child porn because of the availability of children to him is kind of... Wrong. There would literally be thousands of victims, and you'd have to figure at least one of those parents wouldn't be content with taking a check for someone raping their kid... That their kid was actually worth more than any amount of money... And the fact you'd be letting a monster molest other children... I'm not buying that.
Another reason I don't think he did anything is that the first kid, not the family of grifters, but the one most people think he did molest, his father got the kid to "remember" the abuse after pulling his tooth and having him under a sedative -- one which has been proven to make people vulnerable to coercion/suggestion. This was when he was caught on tape trying to extort Mj and actually admitting to not giving a shit about his son. Also, which is kind of important, the kid's description of Mj's genitals were wrong. Even though they tried to say there were similarities its widely believed that that's the reason no charges were ever pressed against Mj in that case... And the fact the boys mother said the father was lying.
What I never knew until recently about the whole thing is that it was Lisa Marie who convinced him to settle with the boys father just to end it when he wanted to fight it. I kind of understand why, but it was a bad move.

I gotta say...if I hear one more person call this guy a "GENIUS" I am going to throw up. He was a talented pop music product with a bunch of charisma....which pretty much died after Thriller. After that, a few good tracks and a bunch of tabloid bullshit. The Holy Trinity of rock and roll is Elvis, The Beatles, and Dylan....Jackson is no where near in that league.

Michael Jackson isn't really rock and roll, so there's really no need to make a comparison to Elvis, the Beatles, or Dylan. I'd say he is a genius in the pop world. He was successful after Thriller, of course that is when he peaked but he was still very relevant and immensely successful through "Dangerous". Whether he was a "product" or not is debateable I guess but he promoted and built himself up to be the most recognizable person in the world at one point, so that's saying something.

Not immediately after Thriller he didn't. As for him being a genius. You think not. Fine. You're entitled to your opinion. I respect that. Could you at least respect the opinion of those who think he is? Sure he ain't rock n roll like faldor said but he didn't make rnr.
