Re: Actors/Directors you feel were robbed of Oscar wins/nominations
Clint Eastwood. The man has done so much, the films he's made as a director have all received critical acclaim and whilst he's had nominations he's never had a win and is very deserving. Meanwhile because Heath Ledger died his performance in the overly hyped Dark Knight is viewed as the greatest thing since sliced bread and he gets one, wheras a man who's done everything for this industry (technically even starting out in foreign film) gets snubbed year after year. One day, before he dies of general old age, this man deserves a win. Hell he should eventually get the liftetime achievement award.
Re: Actors/Directors you feel were robbed of Oscar wins/nominations
Christopher Nolan (director) - The Dark Knight
Gary Oldman (supporting actor) - The Dark Knight
Mickey Rourke (best actor) - The Wrestler (should've won)
Mel Gibson (director) - The Passion of the Christ
Michael J. Fox (actor) - Casualties of War
Michael Mann (director) - Heat
Al Pacino (actor) - Heat
Tom Cruise (actor) - Collateral
Michael Mann (director) - The Insider (should've won)
John Carpenter (director) - The Thing '82
Clint Eastwood (actor) - Gran Torino
Clint Eastwood (director) - Gran Torino

Totally agree, and you want to know why?
He's a conservative in Hollywood. So they blacklist him. Critics & fans praise his work, but only in cases of "Unforgiven" does Hollywood force themselves to have to give him praise.
Typically though they pretend like he doesn't exist.

Eastwood won the Oscar for best director in 92 with Unforgiven. If he didn't, he would have been at the top of my list because its the greatest western ever made. Should have won for best actor as well but everyone had a hard on for Pacino playing a blind dude.
Michael Mann (director) - Heat
Good choice. One of my favorite films, but usually flies under my radar when compiling lists for some reason. It should have been in this movie tournament we're doing.
Michael J. Fox (actor) - Casualties of War
Just like with Cruise in July, that performance is criminally underrated and never got respect for it.
Since we're talking war movies, add Kubrick for Full Metal Jacket. Only thing that prevents that from being an absolute masterpiece is the fact they actually go to Vietnam. Film loses steam after boot camp ends. Almost redeems itself with the woman sniper.....almost.
Almost everyone involved in Heat deserved an award. Hell, you could even make a case for Portman and she's only onscreen for about five minutes.
Only reason Carpenter didn't win with The Thing is the academy really shunned horror during its boom years.

Didn't know he won it then. Well that's at least good to hear. Regardless though there are many times when he has be snubbed for nominations/wins that he definetly deserved. I still think it's criminal Gran Torino wasn't nominated at all recently.
Re: Actors/Directors you feel were robbed of Oscar wins/nominations
He cant win every time. He's had a decent amount of nominations, and has had some wins. The actors I feel sorry for are people like Rourke, Cruise, etc. who get nominated and everyone knows its "last chance saloon" for these guys, yet the Academy fails to pull the trigger.

Gary Oldman--Leon the Professional
Chan Woo Park--Oldboy
Scarlett Johansson--Lost in Translation
Steve Buschemi--Reservoir Dogs
Ricardo Darin--Nine Queens
Kate Winslet--Heavenly Creatures
John Hughes--Ferris Bueller
Quentin Tarentino--Pulp Fiction
Morgan Freeman--Seven
Sharon Stone--Casino
Cate Blanchette--BB
Ed Norton--Fight Club

You're wrong here. He's won twice for best director (four nominations)--Unforgiven and Million Dollar Baby--and twice for best picture for the same two films.

Major disagreement there. I have no idea why he doesn't win. The Oscars are fucked up. Can someone explain how Forrest Gump or Shakespeare in Love won? The fact that he's a conservative doesn't stop him from racking up nominations. He isn't blacklisted --a guy like Roman Polanski is blacklisted. He still gets top A list actors to appear in his films. I think its more likely that the Oscars is just a fucked up awards ceremony.
Could you care to explain how outspoken conservatives like Patricia Heaton and Kelsey Grammer have multiple emmy wins?
Eihi Shiina- Audition
I have the opportunity to pick this up--I've heard it described as an intense psychological thriller. It made 11th place on Bravos scariest movie moments. Is this an accurate description of the film?

I feel very sorry for Cruise because he get's a lot more shit than he deserves mainly for the whole scientology thing and then he gets turned into a joke with people flat out not liking him for no real explainable reason. I mean I know not every film he's done is great hell a fair few of them have been quite bad but when he steps up to plate he can act, and act pretty damn well.
