Re: Best albums of the 00s- Nominations list

We'll get this started on Monday. Figured I would post the list in case there's a few albums some people may not have heard so they can give em a spin. I'm gonna have to download the Pantera and Tool records.

Initially I thought it could be top 10, but we had so many tied at 4 votes, and even more at 3, we'll do twenty. Could have went to twenty three without trimming any fat and not even counting all the 2 vote picks, but our poll has a max of 20 slots. We'll eliminate two in each of the first few rounds to speed up the process a bit.

Guns N Roses- Chinese Democracy
Audioslave- Audioslave
Audioslave- Out of Exile
Buckethead- Electric Tears
Disturbed- The Sickness
Avenged Sevenfold- City of Evil
RHCP- Stadium Arcadium
M.I.A.- Kala
Muse- Black Holes and Revelations
NIN- With Teeth
Tool- Lateralus
Linkin Park- Hybrid Theory
Metallica- Death Magnetic
Pantera- Reinventing Steel
STP- Shangri La Dee Da
Velvet Revolver- Contraband
Megadeth- The System Has Failed
Eminem- Marshall Mathers LP
Godsmack- Awake
U2- No Line on the Horizon

I know someone is gonna mention it, so I'll bring it up as well. I'm not too fond of Out of Exile being on the list. It gives Audioslave an unfair advantage over the others. However, if its removed, either Libertad or Atomic Bomb would take its place, which would just give the advantage to those bands. Since the first Audioslave record had the most votes here, I used that as essentially a tie breaker.

Not including any of those would require dipping into a truckload of albums tied at two votes, and doing polls to determine what deserves to be in a poll is a tad on the lame side.

If this is an elimination series, which I'm not sure of, you could rig it so they go against each other right away. Wouldn't upset me.

That's a pretty good list, I think.

I know Black Holes pales in comparison to Absolution. I'm already surprised.

pretty decent list....

and just because you're gonna scope out pantera and tool, lofton...
i'm gonna download me some M. I. A.
for the record 1. i've never heard MIA before...
                    2. while reinventing the steel is nowhere NEAR the best pantera record... it IS the only one released this decade soooooo... i ( prolly along with some of y'all) thought it would be disrespectful not to put em on my list...that .. and it still wipes the floor with 80% of the metal released since....

Its not gonna be an elaborate tournament like the Madness series. Its basically the CD eliminations we've done the past three years. We keep voting off albums from the list as a whole until there's a winner.

There were so many albums that doing a tournament like that would have been feasible, but we really don't need two of those going at once.

I do agree that its a solid list. There isn't really much missing from it. No country but that wasn't shocking. I was surprised that no pop tarts made it(Britney, Christina, Rihanna, etc.), but Rihanna was one vote away from sneaking in.

Only noticeable absences that I see are bands like the Crowes, Marilyn Manson, and the Pumpkins.

I'm surprised Shangri La Dee Da got in. I really liked their earlier albums i.e. Core and Tiny Music but have always felt underwhelmed by their last album. I think one thing this list is lacking is a lot new artists who came out actually during the 00's, quite a lot of albums are by already established acts (Probably because whilst everyone nominated albums by new artists the votes for them were so divided whilst we all also went with familiar already established pre-00 artists and unsurprsiingly a lot of us nominated the same ones.

Anyway that's the way the cards were dealt, still a very interesting list although I think if we do it just elmination style CD will somehow win.

man, i've been away for a couple weeks and i totally missed this. pretty nice list but i'm surprised by linkin park, godsmack, and disturbed making it because many people bash those bands continuously. they would have been on my list but i didn't think there would be many people nominating them.
hope i'll catch the votes 16
