Re: U2 - Acoustic Achtung Babies
The second single from No Line On The Horizon will be Magnificent and it's released on May 4th.
The track has been getting rave reviews ever since 'No Line...' was released at the beginning of last month. The Times in London called it 'stunning' while Q magazine called it a 'slow-building anthem with the ambience of The Unforgettable Fire'.
The band shot a video for the track in Morocco and we'll be carrying it on U2.com very soon.

Obviously a smart and inevitable choice for the 2nd single, but it might be too late to grab the masses with this track. They were crazy for not unleashing this the week of the album's release when the song was charting on the Itunes singles chart. They performed the song everywhere on that promo blitz, and it just didn't make much sense to try and force Get On Your Boots down peoples throats when they clearly didn't want it.

What? I've heard this song on the radio starting 2 to 3 weeks ago.
Thats because its been a fan favorite since they went on that promo blitz. Nobody liked Boots, and since its a great album, other tracks get radio play. I don't even listen to the radio very often, but I've heard I'll Go Crazy If I Don't Go Crazy Tonight. They forced radio and fans to cherry pick other tracks because the first single sucked.

Yeah I've heard that song too on the radio.
I assumed Magnificent was already released as a single. It should have been.
Re: U2 - Acoustic Achtung Babies
Been listening to this album tonight, and it still blows my mind how quickly this record faded. It continues its descent down the charts even with this single out that clearly isn't catching on.
I've said for years that we'll know how bad the industry truly is when U2 unleashed a record in the middle of it as they have always been bulletproof.
Well, its bad....
Re: U2 - Acoustic Achtung Babies
The record wasn't as radio friendly as previous releases such as How To Dismantle An Atomic Bomb. That's why it's bombing.
Its on the verge of platinum here after its third month since release. Technically its not a bomb. It was just unable to sustain its initial momentum. I think one of the things that makes it so glaring is how huge the promo behind it was. It went from being everywhere to being nowhere.
It may have suffered from bad timing as well. There have been some huge releases this year from new artists and established artists that it had to compete with. 2009 has actually been a pretty big year with the market being flooded with releases.
While I do agree its mainly comprised of deep album cuts and a few songs I would consider epic(Moment of Surrender, White As Snow, Cedars of Lebanon), it does contain a couple tracks(Magnificent, I'll Go Crazy....) that should have had no problem doing damage on the singles charts.
They should save 'I'll Go Crazy..' for when the U.S. tour is in full swing. They'll have no problem selling out this stadium tour, but they're gonna have problems keeping this record steady on the charts.
