they don't know DJ. DJ's the cake of the week

This isn't really supossed to be a Robin vs DJ thread.

And I'll accept the blame for making it that way as I think I was the first to make a comparision. However my comparison wasn't suposed to be knocking Robin.

To me it's clear Robin plays with an unsual style and technique. He's one of those distinctive players that when he plays you can tell it's him pretty easily. For me personally, and it's just one opinion, it's a bit hit or miss, when he plays something I like, such as some of his solos on Chinese Dem, I think it's awesome, but I'm not so fond of what he does with some of the older songs.

I can see why a person who loved that style, and there's a few around these parts, would miss him a lot. But I can also see that many people who liked Slash's style might find robin's approach to the songs somewhat abrasive. And so I always saw him as a some what polarising character in the band - I feel he'd scare away some of the older fans - but also win over his share of new fans.

Likewise his image, his goth NIN look in 2000 when combined with his arrangment of AFD would have been confronting to a lot of the hard rock fans. However, then in 2006 he came back with a massive classic rock appearance, and killer stage presence. So i'm just saying in terms of what he's brought the band it's a mixed bag.

This might get me a flame, but it's my opinion that many people at a GNR show want Slash. Let's face it - a huge part of the audience grew up with Axl and Slash together. And no one is ever going to replace that in their minds as GNR. But i've always felt that despite this - most of the hard rock audience was willing to give it a shot without Slash - they didn't approve - but they'll come to a gig and sus out what Axl is on about. Now when those people come to a show and Robin plays his way. Well, it's polarising, some of them, such as you, and such as some others in this thread, loved it, and feel it's killer, but there's also others, some in this thread too, who just went like "wtf happend to the solo?". Now i've always been interested in what the responce would have been if we had a less controversial player handling those parts. Obviously there's people who would still call for slash, but I also feel that the slash loss was increased by the way the guitar parts were re-arranged so differently to the traditional way.

So enter into that thought process DJ. Sure he's comparitively no one at this stage, but my thoughts are that his past, admittedly low key, resume - of Sixx Am, and of his work on Saints of Los Angles with Motley - and from what i've seen of his playing style on youtube etc - show that he plays in rock style which is very compatiable with the AFD songs - and that he's also a little left field enough to be able to handle some of robin's more diverse contributions to things. And i'm excited to see what the new band would be like with more of that sort of classic rock vibe in it.

I'm not a robin hater. I saw him earlier this year with trent in NIN and he was awesome on stage and really made the show IMO. And i like what he plays on CD. But he's gone now...and I'm interested that he's been replaced by a player with a more classic rock style, as I always felt that was one issue with the band since slash left.

Nice!  I liked the solo and DJ's playing during the spoken parts.  Sounds pretty soulful to me.

ah the old one for work, one for home, one for the car bit....one of THOSE guys

I bought 3 when it came out.  1 for myself, actually I bought the album too, so I guess I bought 4.  2 were gifts.  I'd buy another CD if it went on clearance.  I was tempted at the used one for $9.99 but it didn't quite grab me.  If there was ever a re-release I'd buy it as long as "something" was different.  A song, artwork, something along those lines.

look, how many solos does DJ have on the album? answer: 0. he has no right to be in gnr, play with them live, write their songs, or perform robin's epic solos live. won't be right if a tour happens. will be a crime. it's not fair to robin. it's not fair to the fans. shame on axl. shame on the perfectionist. DJ, is anything but perfect. robin's perfect. TIL solo by robin is perfect. DJ will stain it if he touches it live. like he will stain other epic solos from robin on the album if he does them live. robin deserves better. the fans deserve better than this. shame on axl for this misery

that's right it's amazing. answer the question. how many solos did DJ record on chinese democracy? you know, robin should sue axl if DJ stains any of his epic solos from the album live on stage. robin should sue. robin has grounds for lawsuits against axl, DJ, and guns n' roses for staining his hard work on the album
