There's a debate about bringing these into my home state. The cops want them so they dont have to shoot people with knives etc. And i can see the logic in that....but at the same time I wonder when this kind of stuff starts happening....not that the woman wasn't out of line...but you dont need to taze people with no weapons and who are physicaly not a threat to the cops...just my opinion....

I understand your reasoning, but if the cop would have used his strength to subdue her, people would still be crying foul b/c he's so much bigger/stronger than she is.  Damned if you do, damned if you don't.  Atleast this way, chances are that being tased ONCE is usually enough to get the subject to cooperate.  All the taser really is is just a shock to the system.  It isnt meant to harm the person long term like if the cop had physically thrown her around.

Heres a good quote I found:

"Pepper spray goes on for hours and hours, hitting someone with a baton breaks limbs, shooting someone with a firearm causes permanent damage, even punching and kicking - the intent of those tools is to inflict pain, ... with the Taser, the intent is not to inflict pain; it's to end the confrontation. When it's over, it's over."

No way.. For what?  Not signing a speeding ticket?!

Keep it in perspective here. I tried to watch this with an open mind, and after I read your comment watch with the viewpoint she will deserve it. But come on, this is comical. At 1:30 the cop clearly gets a jolt of roid rage, and I still can't see why he tased her when he did.

She didn't sign a speeding ticket, big deal. She's not transporting mountains of guns or cocaine here..  If an angry old lady is a tasable offense to this guy, I'm not sure he's suited to be in law enforcement.

But remember a year or two ago a Polish guy in a Canadian airport died from being tased. Had a heart attack or something. He was wondering around, looking for family late at night, and couldn't speak english. Something similar easily could have happened to her, I'm not sure a 72 year old heart can withstand being tased all the time, police need to take that into consideration.  Especially when it's someone who's harmless, save it for times their lives are in jeapordy.

She wasn't tased b/c she refused to sign the ticket.  She was tased because of how she was acting.  I mean come on, she was acting belligerent on the side of a busy highway.

What would be worse, she starts pushing the cop again and somehow they both end up on the busy highway, or the cop puts an end to it right there and hits her with the taser?

Re: Grandma Tazed

Eh... The right call?

Thank God that I live where I live.

Here's the lowdown.

The cop was perfectly within his legal right to do what he did. In most states in the U.S., if you refuse to sign a speeding ticket, the cop is within the law to arrest you and take you to jail. I've signed speeding tickets before, and it usually says this above or below where you sign.

HOWEVER

The cop should've made a judgment call, and simply let it pass. It would've difused the situation. People typically get pissed when they get tickets anyways, and considering the fact she's a 72 year old woman, that ASKED HIM TO GO AHEAD LET HER SIGN THE TICKET... no, he kept pushing it.

He didn't do anything 'legally' wrong, but he could've handled that situation better by universes. I personally don't think not signing a speeding ticket is worth sending someone to jail. Like others have said, it isn't like she's running guns.

And believe me, i'm the first guy to call out these geezers when they play the 'senior card'. She didn't do that here. When she started being pushed around, because she refused to sign the ticket, she turned around and tried to remind him that he's being a nazi to a 72 year old WOMAN over a fucking speeding ticket.

lol at you guys justifying it. It would take 2 fucking seconds to cuff her and throw her in the back of the cop car till she calmed down, what a fucking prick of a guy.
