Re: The Slasher Face-Off Part IX: The Final Chapter
I watched the remake last night on Showtime and I don't know....... I love most of it but I never understand horror movies and why the killer just forgets how to kill when it comes to the main character.....
With Laurie, does he want her dead? I mean he had 5 thousand opportunities to kill her and didnt.
is he conflicted which is why he can't pull the trigger on the kill?
so now u get part II
Ok, so now u have decided u want to kill her again?
why not kill her when you had numerous opportunities?
Plus in the remake, Michael is clearly human, so he takes 5 gunshot wounds?
you want to discuss plot holes........
why didn't he kill the sheriff's daughter? just a lot of stuff I don't "GET" about the remake.
Re: The Slasher Face-Off Part IX: The Final Chapter
The reason the remake was like that, is because Zombie was not allowed to do what he wanted.
1) The only reason we got a rushed remake of the original film in the final act, is because of studio pressure on Zombie
2) Michael must stalk Laurie, instead of go right after her, which is not what new era Michael is all about. Odds are, true to the story, he'd of just attacked her and killed her when he had the chance. BUT, Michael must do what he's always done. Be 'The Shape', loom like a phantom in the darkness, stalk and kill in that fashion. Problem is - the new era Michael is not 'The Shape' and nothing like him.
3) Annie was kept alive, because Malek Akkad wanted Danielle Harris for future films. She's a fan favorite from her work as a child, as Jamie Lloyd, in Halloween 4 & 5. One of the regrets in the old franchise is that Jamie was killed off in Halloween 6 (she was portrayed by a different actress, J.C. Brandy in that one). They regretted it afterwards, and asked Zombie to work a Halloween alum into the remake somehow. Many fans were barking for Charles Cyphers (Sheriff Brackett, Halloween I & II) to play Loomis, P.J. Soles (Lynda - Halloween) to play Laurie's mom, and Danielle Harris to play Annie. Well they got Harris as Annie. She also was kept alive intentionally so she could return for future films, which is happening with H2.
There was ALOT of politics involved in the direction of Halloween 2007. I'm amazed Zombie agreed to return, but the film was a big hit, so I guess that's it. Many, like me, are hoping H2 will actually be a purer vision of what Zombie wants or wanted to do with Halloween.
Re: The Slasher Face-Off Part IX: The Final Chapter
I actually think there's three. 'The Shape' Michael (Phantom, Force of Nature aspect, evil), 'Jason-Michael' (Monster, zombie in a mask), and Human Michael (anti social psychopath in a Halloween mask).
Shape = Halloween I & II, 7 & 8
Monster = Halloween 4-6
Human = Halloween 2007 & H2
One of the problems that plagued Halloween H2O & Halloween: Resurrection is that they wanted to do 'The Shape' & Human at the same time. Well that doesn't work. A guy in a mask, can't be a force of nature. Halloween 2007 is plagued with trying to do Monster & Human.
Like you said, you have to choose which one you want to do. I personally always thought The Shape was the coolest. Like Michael was a force of nature. A natural order. He was a hurricane in a mask with a knife. Evil never dies, you can lock it up, burn it, but it keeps coming back. That concept was cool as fuck to me.
Zombie's 'Human' version is unique to his franchise, but it also kills alot of fear factor imo. It becomes hard to believe that just some anti social psychopath in a mask can't be stopped. Call the FBI, call the Marines, get Airwolf, whatever you need.
When he lives through being shot into the chest, it becomes unbelieveable and hard to sit through, because the conceptual foundation was flawed. You have to start retconning things in your mind, to make things down the road make sense.
