Conan and Ferguson are both a lot better than Leno and Letterman, so it's kinda cool that they aren't in the same timeslot anymore. Now I can watch them both every night if I want, though it's usually better to get to bed earlier than staying up for Ferguson.

BTW, Axlin08, I actually felt Conan's second show was better than the first one. The meteor hitting Tom Hanks = instant classic. And "CoCo." Conan's never living that one down; the audience will never let him forget it. 16

I never watched Conan much, mostly I can't stay up that late anymore. Don't watch Leno or Letterman really either. Leno'd "Headlines" were always funny, come to this of it, I wish I watched more on Mondays hmm

On Jay's last Monday show, they did a best of "Headlines". It was hysterical! I loved "Headlines" and this one just knocked it out of the park! 14

I am also a Conan fan. Never cared much for Leno. Good to see Conan on last night, and his first show was great. Tonight's second show wasn't as good, but hey, it happens. The interview and street stuff was great, the monologue was weak. You can't hit it out of the park all the time.

But I disagree with BLS. Jimmy Fallon sucks. I think Jimmy is a funny guy, but he's out of his realm/element. As a late show host, he's terrible. Craig Ferguson is MUCH better.

Letterman & Leno are guys I think "have their moments". Jimmy Kimmel is weak too.

I think BLS was saying having Jimmy following Conan, will always make Conan look good, because Jimmy's show isn't too great.  I've only seen small snippets of Jimmy's show.  I wouldn't describe it as horrible.  It seems like he's trying real hard.  Maybe he'll eventually settle in.  I don't think Conan was all that fantastic right from the start either.

And I think Jimmy Kimmel's show is solid, though I don't watch ANY of these shows on anywhere near a regular basis.

Conan got off to a terrible start. Took him about 3 years before he got into his groove. The difference though is that Fallon has already had performing experience on SNL, in movies, etc. At the time Conan was hired to do the Late Night show in 1993, he had only been a writer for the Simpsons and SNL. He literally had no stage experience, so that's why he got off to an awful start.

Yeah but I still think there's an adjustment period.  Jimmy was funny on SNL, though he couldn't ever seem to make it through a skit without laughing.  But being on SNL is much different than hosting a late night talk show.  Granted it IS in front of a camera, so he does have that over Conan when he started but I'd still give it some time to develop.

I don't know if this will help or hurt my argument, but Chevy Chase had the SNL experience and he had one of the worst talk shows in history.  So just being on SNL doesn't necessarily give you a leg up.

It helps from a performance standpoint, which is what Conan's problem was starting out. Conan is a brilliant comedy writer, but starting out he was a poor performer. And over time he turned into a brilliant performer. Fallon is a hack writer and a mediocre performer even with his SNL experience. Chevy Chase is/was a brilliant performer but a hack writer.
