without SW the effects in SPR proly would not have been possible

hell i think they even used Industrial Light and Magic as the special effcts company, who were founded to make starwars

also of interest is that SPR also used John Williams for the movie score

anyway the point here is that SW changed the way movies are made and how the final product looks...

never mind me just some fanboy ramblings smile

No one's denying that Lucas and Spielberg go hand in hand. The two have been intertwined for decades. I do agree that the special effects were groundbreaking. I watched it, had the toys, the whole nine yards. I just cant bring myself to vote for G rated fluff when its up against a serious film like Saving Private Ryan.

Star Wars is my vote.  While the first thirty minutes of SPR are intense, upon a second viewing I found myself desensitized to the violence.  Star Wars has a better story going overall.   I did enjoy the Ted Danson cameo in SPR though.

Just because you(or anyone) is desensitized to it doesn't change the impact of the film. I'm not even a Spielberg nutswinger, but the guy hit grand slams with Ryan and Schindler's List.

PG tongue 16

if you like SPR you MUST see HBO's Band of Brothers, it was co-produced by Speilberg and Hanks at the same time that SPR was filmed, its a fantastic 12 part series about the US Para-Troopers in WWII

Yeah believe it or not Band of brothers is an even better watch than Saving private Ryan...an absolute must see, also check out The world at war for the ultimate WW2 documentary running at 33hours this doc should be required viewing to all world leaders imo....might make them think twice before starting another one. Back on topic i do think Star wars deserves this, Saving private Ryan was excellent but at the end of the day its been done before albeit not to the perfectionism of SPR... but god man Star wars was a revolution in movies. Star wars FTW.

If this was "The Empire Strikes Back", I wouldn't blink. "A New Hope" is my least favourite of the trilogy.

Due to my age, "Saving Private Ryan" is definitely something I remember seeing more for the first time. Great movie experience, from that visceral beach assault till the end.

Private Ryan is the best war film ever made imo, and clearly the best WWII American one. While I'd give both 4 stars out of 4, Ryan is the better film.

Very tough first round match up. If it was Empire Strikes Back up against it I might have to go with Empire. Luckily I didn't have to make that choice.

This was a REALLY tough choice. I love both films. Both are masterpieces in their respective genres, war and sci-fi.

I went with Star Wars, simply because it holds more of a re-watchability.

In "GnREvolution Movie Madness" fire represents death, when the Movie's credits roll, the movie goes up in flames, when the names are read, the decision is final and they must leave the tribal council area immediately. I'll go tally the votes.

Saving Private Ryan, bring me your torch.
