Re: Terminator Salvation
Alright, I just saw Terminator Salvation. The only great thing about the movie is the surround sound. It kicks all kinds of ass.
Everything else, however, is either "above average," "average," or flat-out "mediocre." Unfortunately, the most important element -- the story -- is mediocre. I'd give the movie a 6.5 or 7 out of 10. It's pretty similar in overall quality to Terminator 3, and the one big compliment I will give to the story is that at least it is not a rehash of the previous movies. Terminator 3 totally ripped off the story of Terminator 2, so I will give the creators of Salvation a bit of credit for at least trying something new. But sadly the movie feels like a big cliffhanger for a much better story.

Forgot to mention, loved the use of "You Could Be Mine" during the motorcycle scene. It was used much better in this movie than it was in Terminator 2.
Re: Terminator Salvation
Yeah, I think that's the overall general reaction. I think people were expecting more from the film with Bale on board, and all the amazing, stylistic visuals. It's just a straight forward war movie like I originally mentioned. Just a shoot 'em up. But I enjoy the hell out of that kind of stuff, so that's probably why i've got a soft spot for the film. It still ain't T1 or T2 on any level however.
I think you do raise an inteesting point about it having a great build up for another film. Which is very possible. But, no offense, somebody needs to tell Christian Bale to call Chris Nolan and see if he's interested, because I think McG did a good job, not great, with this. But I don't want to see another one with him at the helm. He needs to walk away from the table with his head held high.
But right now, McG is already talking T5, and how it's got some idea to bring back Robert Patrick as the creator of the T-1000 and all this stuff. Patrick is just too old. Believe me as a weekly viewer of the now cancelled "Unit" on CBS, Patrick is showing his age big time these days, as well as putting on a few pounds. Maybe in his "X-Files" days he could've pulled it off, but not now.

It basically flopped at the box office. Not too long ago, the tracking was saying $120 million over the Thursday through Monday time frame. Well, it's made $56.4 million for the first four days. Probably another $8 million or so tomorrow. So basically $65 million for the 5-day opening. That's pretty shitty considering this movie cost $200 fucking million. No way in hell it will be profitable enough for them to even bother with a sequel. The only way they would do it is if the budget is slashed in half and they can get a legit storyteller like Chris Nolan on board to direct it. Otherwise, this franchise is dead in the water.

Re: Terminator Salvation
The one great thing about this movie coming out is that the likes of Best Buy are putting the other movies on sale. I just bought Terminator 2: Skynet Edition on Blu-ray for $14.99 at Best Buy. This is a brand new release, just came out on Tuesday, so that is a hell of a deal to get it for $14.99 at a store known for ripping people off on catalog titles. They also had the original Terminator on Blu-ray on sale for $12.99 so I got it as well. I just got done watching Terminator on Blu and I was pleasantly shocked to see that the picture quality is pretty damn good!

BB is also offering free shipping on blurays for two days making it a good deal. Tejastech08, how is the picture quality on T2, I've read some reviews on Amazon that says the picture quality is crap.

I'm watching it right now and it's solid. Not much of an improvement over my DVD when sitting 12 feet from a 46 inch TV. Obviously, it looks much better than the DVD when I sit in the 4-5 foot range from the screen. The PS3's bitrate meter is showing me that it's not as high of a bitrate as it probably should be. It's VC-1 at 14-25 Mbps, mostly in the 14-18 Mbps range. However, it has a core DTS audio track at 1.5 Mbps, which is a nice upgrade over the Dolby Digital (448 kbps) on my Extreme DVD. I don't have a high def audio receiver so I can't take advantage of the DTS-HD Master audio track, but the core track kicks ass in its own right.
Re: Terminator Salvation
I'm going to see this as soon as I can but my expectations aren't very high. I'm already disappointed that this takes place after T3, that should be pretended like it never existed. What I was hoping for was a prequel before T1 set in the future explaining Kyle Reese's side of the story.

Uh, that's kind of what Terminator Salvation does.
