Van Halen News Desk is reporting that Bono has managed to broker a deal that merges Universal Music Group (the largest record distribution outfit on the planet) with YouTube.
The channel, to be called Vevo, will debut later in 2009 and will feature content provided by Universal. The joint venture, apparently derived by Bono during a dinner with UMG’s CEO Doug Morris, is expected to produce revenue through outside advertisements, similar to the commercials seen on sites such as Hulu that viewers must endure before seeing the content they are seeking.
The new channel will be wholly owned by UMG, although both companies will share start up costs. The venture has been deemed as necessary by UMG, as album sales thus far in 2009 are down 45 percent from 2000, according to Nielsen SoundScan.

Your site has already failed. You don't get to choose what net users view and listen to, which is something you're still unable to grasp for some reason. You can shove manufactured media crazes down peoples throats all day long, but when it comes to interaction with a website, you don't get to make all the rules and the site be 100% controlled by you. Music fans upload vids from Uni artists that you continually delete, but you feel the need for a channel for Uni content?

I think you guys are looking at it wrong.
I'd guess the reason they're deleting it is they want a slice of the pie. and they were being left out of the party on their own content.
They own the content...users upload it...other uses watch it...and the owners of the site get all the advertising revenue.....and uni gets nothing. Of course they're pissed.
But this way...if they co-own the site....then when people keep violating copyright like they already do when up loading, uni gets a piece of the action too.....so they can then basicly give their blessing to what already happens but this way get in on the good time of advertising revenues - which afterall access to their product is driving.

They already have a youtube channel. When you upload a video, a link shows up on your vid to buy the song. youtube also shares ad revenue.
They're getting a slice of the pie. If slices weren't being handed out, the music industry would have shut down youtube years ago. However, their slice of the pie gets smaller and smaller just from their own actions. Deleting vids means no promotion.
Look at Olorin's example. Someone searches GNR, they'll spot This I Love. Now they get clips from a movie without hearing the song. That just creates more incentive to either not care or head on over to pirate bay.
