Re: Slash to be on American Idol next week
yeah but dude u are too much of a "what have u done for me lately" person
I don't care if Slash never writes another song or does hip hop. he will always be an ICON thanks to his work in GNR
If u win an Oscar, that is the pinnacle, so where u are sitting there talking about it means nothing cause most people don't win another, hell, how many people dont win one period?
so the fact she won ONE is still huge regardless if she ever acts again.
Thats the equivolent of saying a Stanley Cup or a Superbowl means nothing.
Does Peyton Manning suck if he never wins another one?
They do mean nothing.
Look at the Chicago Cubs. Infamous for not winning a WS title for 100 years. They're famous for being the lovable losers.
I guess NOT winning can also equal success, I dunno. It might take you a century or more, but who knows.
Just because you win one, doesn't mean anything, especially in sports. Do you see 20,000 people a game for the Florida Marlins because of two titles in a little over the last decade? Or people coming out in droves, because the Arizona Diamondbacks won a WS in 2001? The Chicago White Sox winning in 2005, certaintly didn't change Chicago from being a 'Cubs' town. They'd rather sellout that stadium of losers, then visit the winners.
Slashfro makes the best point. Most of those actresses listed, other than Hudson, are known names, that have stayed busy in the business, even if some of them, their work did go a bit rank.
I just don't think winning an Oscar means anything in terms of American Idol, and the successful people of that show. Hudson going, and getting a job to FOLLOW the success of Dreamgirls, which she wasn't even the star of, will tell the tale.
If we're handing out congratulations, then let's also give one to Elizabeth Hasselbeck. She came to public awareness on "Survivor", she didn't win, not even close, scored herself a gig on The View, and has stayed relevant in the TV talk show, and TV political commentary world, and also made NICE paychecks for those jobs, despite not winning Survivor.
Last time I checked, I don't see ANYONE talking about the successes of people off of that show. And when she was on the show, it was as big as Idol is now.
Jennifer Hudson has not been a musical success. Her acting success is being based off one ONE Oscar win. I'm sorry, but that's not definitive success for the rest of your life. All of those actresses listed, saw success in other places, if at least staying working for years, other than just their Oscar win.
Re: Slash to be on American Idol next week
The Academy Awards are not a league and its not a competition. Its an award some people are handed in recognition of a special achievement and hardly anyone on the face of the earth ever gets one, never mind more than one.
They are not won by scoring points every week and totaling them up at the end of the season. The sporting comparisons are not really relevant.

Kim Basinger was great in that role. She barely did anything since then, cause I think she's afraid of looking older.
Anyway, the Oscars don't mean anything quality wise. The European Festivals admit real talent much more.

Re: Slash to be on American Idol next week
It's a different view. Americans prefer huge epic movies over movies that wanna tell something. The Oscar jury thinks that if a movie is mainstream then it's good. They wanna entertain and don't care about the rest. It's a joke that many consider Forrest Gump "deep and meaningful". The best films, directors and actors have no chance at the Oscars (with a few exceptions).

Agreed. Otherwise Trent Dilfer, among others, would be considered a better QB than Dan Marino since he won a Super Bowl. And that's clearly not the case.
Re: Slash to be on American Idol next week
I still don't agree. Winning a Grammy, Oscar that shit is a gigantic deal.
Slash doing AI isn't my favorite thing in the world, but fuck it, 30 million people watch it. Its a good career move in that way. Most people don't give a shit. Thats the problem, die hard message board nerds like us care about stupid shit like legacies etc. The majority of the world could care less. They will see Slash and think! WOW, Cool it's Slash!!!!! what a cool guy!
We hate AI but we are the MINORITY big time. This will also be another death knell to GNR when even more people realize Slash is no longer in GNR.

Even after he appears on the show I think more people will think he's in GNR than realize he's in Velvet Revolver.
