New Line Cinema's "Final Destination" horror film franchise will be filming scenes for its fourth installment at the Mobile International Speedway in Irvington, AL next month.

Race-car accident footage for "Final Destination 4" will be shot from May 26 to May 31, said Tommy Praytor, a Mobile racing enthusiast who is acting as the Speedway's movie coordinator for the project.

"They are going to be filming racing and stunts for the movie," Praytor said.

According to a spokeswoman for casting firm Batherson Casting, the production will hire some local residents as extras. Details have not yet been announced, she said, but anyone wanting to be cast in the movie can e-mail a photograph, resume and wardrobe size to fd4casting@yahoo.com

Fans attending the May 31 race at the facility may find themselves in crowd and reaction shots that will be filmed that day, Praytor said.

The first "Final Destination" film hit theaters in 2000 with a story about a group of teenagers who cheat death by avoiding a plane crash after one of them has a premonition about their deaths. In that film, the protagonists then find themselves falling victim, one by one, to mysterious freak accidents. Sequels in 2003 and 2006 followed similar plot formulas.

A New Line media statement summarizes the "Final Destination 4" plot this way: "This time, the story centers on a young man who -- after a premonition of a horrific crash at an auto race that sends cars hurtling into packed bleachers -- manages to heroically save several people. However, his actions were not part of Death's plan, and the survivors find themselves being hunted by Death itself, determined to collect the souls of those who were not intended to survive."

Just got through watching this. NOT impressed. I actually think its worse than FD3, which should have been impossible.  The car crash had huge potential and I thought it would be a great set up, but it falls flat due to CGI overload. I would have preferred a toned down crash that looks more realistic. I realize this was meant to be seen in 3D, but it still shouldn't look this fake.

The rest of the deaths were sub par and lacked creativity, and the bread and butter of this franchise is its deaths. I know we're getting a sequel as it trounced Zombie's Halloween in theaters, but I guarantee FD5 bombs big time.

Oh, and the cast was terrible.

This franchise needs to head straight to DVD. Whether DVD or theater, the concept needs a major overhaul. Each sequel is simply an inferior retread of what came before it.
