It'll sell more than Five O'Clock somewhere, I'll wager that. I think it will do really well.

If "It's Five O'Clock Somewhere" didn't do it, nothing will, regardless of his guest appearences on it.

At this point, all of these guys, Axl included, are has beens.

That's what they would have said about Santana too...

American Idol isn't all that bad. I don't watch it but I did see last week's (with Jamie Foxx) and all of them can actually sing which is cool. 3 or 4 stars have come out of that show, including an Oscar winner.

Why be pissed at Slash for being on AI, when he played on Daughtry's record? Daughtry only had a solo record because of AI.

What have Taylor Hicks, Clay Aiken, Fantasia Barino, or Ruben Studdard done lately?

Sure the show has yielded some stars.  So has MTV's The Real World.  That doesn't make it right.

Difference is the stars from AI have a discernable talent. When someone from the Real World wins an Oscar or sells over 10 million records worldwide, then you'll have a point.

Let's see someone from American Idol win a tag team championship belt in the WWE.

Seriously though, record sales don't automatically equal talent.  Carrie Underwood is cute and a big country star.  The country fans embrace anything, wasn't Jessica Simpson accepted after her failed pop career?  Kelly Clarkson was successful until she tried to do things "her way", then she went back to Clive Davis when that failed.  Jennifer Hudson I'll give you, but she didn't even win her season probably because she wasn't hot enough.  Didn't have the "look" of an idol.  Had to be, she obviously had the talent.  The show is one big popularity contest and for the most part is a joke.

That's how I feel, and I'm sticking to it.

I don't think people should be anti slash for doing this.

However..

I'm not a fan of the genre as I see AI and similar shows as nothing more than karokee contests. It seems to me that what they do is find the people who are the best at doing COVERS, and then ask them to be creative and give them record contracts. Why would that work? That a person is good at singing others songs doesn't mean they will write good things, and likewise in a sence finding someone who can sing good in a variety of styles just turns into "jack of all trades master of none". What of people like Brian Johnson of Ac/Dc who sound awesome in one style - his hardrock screach...he'd be kicked out when he sang a robbie williams ballad badly. It's a stupid idea IMO. So i dont like the concept.

But that said, this is where the industry is at, it's what the market is doing. Slash is a professional musican at an eliete level, and it makes sence for him to get involved in the current trends of the market. It's his job.

Agreed, I just think it's sad that 20 years ago you could get your point across by going on Headbangers Ball.  And now you have to go on American Frigging Idol.  Then again, Riki Rachtman now hosts reunion VH1 Celebreality shows for Rock of Love and Charm School.  How the world turns I guess.
