Estranged has to be a number one seed, right?:haha:

Estranged will be hard to knock off.

I voted for the loser in all 4 of the 'closest battle' ones... makes me a sad panda.

I think u shouldn't have included GNR considering this is a GNR foum and u know they are going to win

Would be interesting to see what other song would win.

Why do people think Estranged is good? I don't get it! No other music site, other than a GnR site, would have Estranged anywhere near this competition.

Sandman by a mile.

The lyrics, the vocal delivery, Slash's guitar work....

Take your pick really. wink

The lyrics are matched by half of UYI, the vocal delivery is matched by half of UYI, and Slash's guitar work is also matched by half of UYI. Add in the over-indulgence, unnecessary length, and Estranged is just not that good. Every ballad other than So Fine on the Illusions is superior.

I agree with that. I don't dislike it like you do, but you hit the nail on the head saying this track would never make a list like this anywhere. Only GNR tracks that would ever make one of these are SCOM, NR, or maybe Jungle.

They would also be eliminated in early rounds. All of them.

Sandman by a mile.

I don't agree with that. If there's one tune from the early 90's I can go the rest of my life without hearing, its that one.

Yeah, but that's not really accurate either. Most on "other sites" would only recognize the singles, and the big hit singles also. Estranged wasn't this. If Estranged would've been released BEFORE November Rain, it would've gotten the same fan fare. It's an amazing song. The problem was, casual audiences had OD'ed on the overindulgence of the Illusions by the time the Estranged came out, and it was kind of given the treatment of "one epic ballad too many". In the eyes of the casual audience, Don't Cry & Rain were enough.

I agree with some of the assessments that Sandman isn't even my favorite on the Black album either. By a mile? Not a chance. One of the most overplayed, cop out, pussy Metallica fan songs. At least Estranged has the credibility of a more underground song, from the perspective of a rock music lover, rather than the radio-ready Sandman. Of Wolf and Man is my fave off of the Black Album. Sad But True, The Unforgiven, Wherever I May Roam, Nothing Else Matters... ALL better than Sandman.

And to all of those wondering what the results would be like without GN'R songs... just see the runner up to Estranged. Jungle won't make it to the final round imo.

I actually think that's more of a comment on Sandman, rather than Estranged. I think Estranged vs. One, would've been closer.

I don't even think alot consider Sandman in their Top-5 off of the Black Album, outside of casual radio Metallica fans.
