Re: The Top Seven Worst Bands That Hipsters Love
MIA isn't popular with hipsters. Paper Planes is popular with hipsters.
Exactly. She had a very small hardcore following before Paper Planes hit. The media tried giving her a massive push in 2005 with Galang but it never materialized into anything substantial. The in crowd only took notice when the Paper Planes/Pineapple Express thing happened.
This clown seems to hold some strange resentment towards her. He's probably one of those people who goes around saying she's a terrorist. Its comical that he slams her as a live performer, and the ONLY example he can come up with is when she was on an awards show doing a song thats not even hers within hours of giving birth. In other words, he's never seen her live so shouldn't even be commenting on the subject. Her lyrics written by a 12 year old? Why couldn't such a moronic yet bold statement be backed up by examples? I know why....because you don't have a fucking clue regarding the topic at hand. You're just some random blogger on Spike who was probably assigned this topic and told to include M.I.A.(at number 1 of course), and since you don't know anything, its just juvenile insults and very general statements.
Re: The Top Seven Worst Bands That Hipsters Love
I gotta say (having actually seen her live) my jaw dropped at the statement about her live performances.
You're probably dead on that he's never actually seen her.
She's an amazing performer, and her stage presence is on a level usually reserved for the legends. Even someone who doesn't like her but has seen her live would have experienced this. At club shows its just the hardcores mainly, but at these festivals the atmosphere is unreal. At Treasure Island the entire crowd was dispersed all over the place no matter who was performing. Once her set started, the entire island rushed towards the stage to witness it. I was about 10 or 15 feet from the stage, and I looked back around the middle of the set and it was just this huge sea of people packed in like sardines. The moment she walked offstage, the crowd dispersed immediately. She wasn't even headlining, and people(including me) started leaving the festival in droves. They were actually having to bring more buses in to shuttle people off the island.
She brings tons of energy to the stage, and all this guy mentions is an awards show where she sang for a few seconds. He definitely hasn't been to an M.I.A. concert and should most definitely be in the bloggers unemployment line.
The least he could have done was watch a show on youtube instead of basing his bullshit on a clip from an awards show.
I actually think she's about to enter backlash territory and this guy is just one of the sheep propelling it forward.
