He couldn't find 25 songs that had good vocals all the way through over a 10 year period?

Are you for real? Seriously there is no way you actually believe that.

Well, he didn't do it.  Instead, he chose to re-record the vocals or parts of the vocals.  You tell me why.

Axl's pretty bad live.  The boots tell the story pretty accurately.

I suggest you get some, here's one of the 2007 shows.

Minus "Nightrain" at this show, Axls voice is pretty awesome.

Minus Nightrain?  So every song was top notch except for one for the classics?  I don't think so.

That's cool that you love Axl no matter what.  If you really think he's ANYWHERE near as good live as he is on the CDs, you're nuts.  That's not an insult, it's a fact.  He cannot reproduce his studio work live because of the complexity of his studio vocals.  How can you not understand that?  It's not even questionable by ANYBODY being even REMOTELY obljective.

I have to agree.  Ive not seen/heard 1 gig where, for me, he performs any new song anywhere near what I wanna hear..  Nails the AFD stuff, which is probably why he likes to dominate a set to it, but when it comes to the new songs, its a struggle, and sometimes I feel sorry for him..
Ive always said it, but he`s written songs he cant perform

If you go back and listen to the early days in 1986 vs. the AFD era (87-89) vs. UYI era (91-93) vs. New Era (01-02) vs. CD Era (06-07).

Every single era features a slightly to vastly different Axl vocally, but none is the same. It goes far bigger than bad night vs. good night. The man's voice is the only artist i've seen, who changes every tour he does. I'm sure 2009 shows will see a slightly altered one too.

What's strange is how factions and opinions have been developed for particular songs from AFD to CD on how certain songs are better or worse from certain eras, just on Axl's vocals alone. That right there shows you a massive inconsistency, if just subconsciously on the part of the fans. He sounds massively hoarse in UYI, yet sounds pitchy in the New Era, but at the same time, some of the CD songs sound best from the New Era vs. the CD era, yet some AFD songs sound the best right now, than they used to, and other songs sound better back then, and i'm not even talking about the instruments.

Dude, anybody can pick out spots where something happened (good or bad).  If you want to keep wasting time doing that, be my guest.  It doesn't change the fact that Axl's live preformances (with a few exceptions) are far, far below the standards set by his studio work.  I'm not sure why you find that so offensive...some people would see it as a compliment.

I don't think it's an age thing though.  I've heard people bitching about Axl for these things for years.

I would agree completely with what Buzz is saying, he could just be writing songs that stay in the middle of his range, but he doesn't.

It's not an issue that everybody is going to have because of that.

Sometimes it is offputting, but it is a fact, and has been pretty much forever.

He can nail every song he's ever done in the studio live. But that might be the only song he does perfect that night. He never does a full set where he gets it perfect for every song.
