my wife, like many canadians, is travelling south of the border today to do the vast majority of our xmas shopping
our govt has asked our retailers to reduce prices, but many refuse, so we go where the deals are. since the dollar is reaching close to par again, i think that cdn retailers could learn from the xmas sales that the US has at the end of nov

pretty much yeah...its all about $$$ man...we have no loyalty up here...thats why most canadian buisnesses have been purchased by US investors...even our biggest franchise, Tim Horton's (basically a dunkin donuts) was purchased by Wendy's years ago 
which is what i was saying before, its odd to be in this position cuz the US economy has driven ours for so long...and when we get the chance to gain some power again we let money talk instead

We obviously can't fix it ourselves, so we appreciate every contribution your country makes to keep us afloat for another day.

well i tried to talk her out of it, but when all our freinds tell us about the great deals, shes hooked, and its not worth the argument it'll cause...i'm just working class if i can savea hundred bucks or so its worth it to me and we'll prolly save like a 1/3 of what we woulda spent here when she shops over there today, hell i even heard that customs isnt even charging duty these days so that even saves us on the 14% markup in taxes that we get on top of our higher prices....how can ya turn it down, its the retailers here that are screwing us....but since most are US companies anyway ya cant blame them for keeping prices high here and lowering in their homeland....by our buisnesses selling to the US way back when...thats when things went wrong for our economy...its not now

Everyone does it. It's more difficult to save money by travelling south from here, what with the ferry ride and everything, but people here are doing a lot of online shopping from American companies. It saves hundreds of dollars.
