Re: Slash Begins Recording for his Solo Album
It's made my day to see some of the pro-bucket fans showing slash a little love. It frustrates me like I can't explain when people insult either slash or bucket. They are both such amazing players, and both give music so much.
It's interesting what's being said about an instrumental album. While i'd like it, a singer can give a soloist something to bounce off.
What's more important to me, although related, is that the song structures need to be designed to give slash something to work with. I'd hate to see this be an album of just normal songs - each with a kickass 20 second solo in the middle.
One of the reasons slash was so cool in GNR is that songs like estranged, even civil war and locotomative or breakdown, they gave him a lot of room to do stuff....the problem in VR by and large is that the song structures were less complex and more basic...which lead to just small solos.
I wish he'd release the actuall singer list soon too!

I always laugh when people say shit like Slash couldn't play If The World and other ridiculous shit like that
There is stuff on the album he couldn't play(or if he did it wouldn't sound the same), but I agree that some people take it a bit overboard.

Well, there definitely is stuff on CD Slash wouldn't touch simply because he doesn't have the balls to for some reason. He needs to stretch himself a bit more.
Still, I'm not feeling the group hug I was expecting here. This is like AA. Hi, I'm BigBri and I'm addicted to Bucket. I'm making positive steps here. Where are the rest? Really, I couldn't be the only one who has heard Obsession Confession for the first time today. Or Too Many Humans.
Let's see some fans estranged from Slash or Bucket-phobes come in here, watch these videos and see something they've never thought they would.
Whatever the case, the CD era has helped me shed a lot of preconceived notions and built-up aggravations. It really is a time to move forward, with GNR and with the ex-members.
While I won't be buying a Slash CD with vocalists, I'm gonna let him do his thing until he drops that instrumental CD. That will be ace.
For the record, every Bucket CD I have bought that features vocals prominently has been utter shit, not worthy of anyone's time.
Re: Slash Begins Recording for his Solo Album
I've always appreciated both Bucket and Slash, at least their work in GNR. I haven't heard a lot of Bucket's solo stuff. I have heard a couple of songs with Serj Tankian on vocals, "Waiting Hare", "We Are One". I like those. Probably helps that I'm a System of a Down/Serj fan.
The one song off the top of my head I couldn't see Slash doing would be Shackler's, at least not the way it was constructed.

Shackler's is one of the most annoying guitar songs I have ever heard.

Re: Slash Begins Recording for his Solo Album
Bigbri, I welcome you and applaud your recent objectivity to Slash. The reason Slash doesn't play like bucket is more to do with how he was trained. Slash has strong roots in the blues and 70's style lead guitar with some modern chops. Bucket has his roots in neo classical shrapnel shredder guitar style with some blues and other chops. So basically Slash is more blues heavy and Bucket is more neoclassical or shredder heavy, however, they both could do some shredding and blues. You follow me?

Slash was in Detroit with Fergie again tonight, played SCOM and Barracuda. Did any of our Detroit members go?

Maybe Slash will check out the NCAA National Championship game tomorrow night if he's still in Detroit, or maybe he checked it out yesterday.

Re: Slash Begins Recording for his Solo Album
Not sure, it was some Final 4 concert. My buddy called me and the solo was fucking sick, I could hear it crystal clear. He had no clue he was coming on stage and was just a casual fan, said the place went nuts. He still has it.
