Re: Soundgarden
I actually agree with the majority of Cornell's logic regarding the breakup of Soundgarden, and I think even Thayil made similar statements. Later tonight I'll try and dig for some of those quotes, although its not as easy as it used to be because no Soundgarden communities exist and the biggest Cornell/Audioslave community imploded after their break up.
Cornell felt that there was really nowhere else for them to go musically. Everything they had to offer musically was already in their discography. Yeah they could retread Superunknown or Down on the Upside and while that would provide good music, what would be the point? Listen to this band's discography chronologically. It was a natural progression. Let's say Soundgarden doesn't break up and they release an album in 1999. Where does it go musically?
Shepard gave a great quote regarding the band's last album....
"the most accurate picture of what Soundgarden actually sounds like,It's way more raw. It's way more honest. It's way more 'responsible.'"
That's a tough act to follow.
Believe me, I'll be doing cartwheels if/when a reunion is announced, and would be more interested in a Soundgarden reunion than a GNR reunion at this point. I just don't want them doing a half ass album.
Re: Soundgarden
SO that concert went ahead and Morello actually took to the stage with 3/4 of sound garden. Chris was playing in Chile but the rest all got back together with a different vocalist and Tom on guitar..... What a crazy mess..... Tom stabbing back at chris.... The rest f soundgarden doing the same... I don't know if thats what even happened.. take a look for yourselves

Posted this one page ago. But thanks for the further info on it.
From the sounds of it, it was a spur of the moment thing. Originally it was Sheppard and Thayil who were going to be there, and Cameron got added to the bill last minute.
Those people in the audience got an amazing deal. 15 bucks and they witnessed a near SG reunion.
Re: Soundgarden
Chris talks about the possibility of a Soundgarden reunion:
http://www.ultimate-guitar.com/news/gen … unite.html
Members of Soundgarden reunited onstage for the first time since 1997 last Tuesday (March 24th) - but without founder member and vocalist Chris Cornell.
Bandmembers Kim Thayil, Matt Cameron and Ben Shepherd reformed at a Tom Morello solo gig at the Crocodile Café in Seattle. The band were joined onstage by Morello on rhythm guitar, and Tad singer Tad Doyle on vocals, reports Reverb.
They performed "Hunted Down", "Nothing To Say", and "Spoonman" at the gig.
The reformation comes in spite of recent insistence from Cornell that the band would never reform unless all original members were involved.
Speaking to Nme.com about the release of his new solo album "Scream", Cornell touched on the subject of his old band reforming.
"When Soundgarden broke up, my discussions with the rest of the band was 'We have to have an agreement that we will never tour Soundgarden - Soundgarden will never exist - without it being a unanimous decision and that everyone who was in the band is in the band'," Cornell told Nme.com.
The singer was then asked if it would have to be a unanimous decision between all Soundgarden members for the band to reform.
"Absolutely. That's something that goes without saying," he said.
Cornell went on to say that the band had an agreement in place that none of them would play Soundgarden songs unless all original members were involved.
He confirmed: "We never, ever entertained the idea of doing it any other way. It has to be how it was and who it was. We put an agreement in place that created a situation where it can't be any other way than that."
Re: Soundgarden
I think the last two paragraphs of that interview are misleading and a wrong phrasing by the writer.
I think (and I could be wrong) that Chris meant the band had agreed to never reunite with a couple members only (and not everyone) and play Soundgarden material AND call it Soundgarden (so kinda like Axl and GNR).
I agree with the band, and love the fact that they agreed to never reunite without everyone. I couldn't imagine it any other way.

Jesus Christ.....does he dislike Shepard THAT much??
I am a big time Soundgarden nutswinger and there's just no way in hell I would support a reunion if its not the Badmotorfinger-Down on the Upside line up. Yamamoto brings nothing to the table and there's literally ZERO reasons for him to be involved.

Do you really think he meant that? I took it to mean the lineup starting with Badmotorfinger since it was that lineup that put Soundgarden on the map. Anyone before that just seems out of the question. Most of the world wouldn't even know that there was a lineup of Soundgarden without Sheppard.
It'd be like GNR reuniting with their truly original lineup with Tracii Guns on lead guitar. There is no point of that since most of the world wouldn't even know who he was, or that he was in GNR.
Re: Soundgarden
Actually, I wouldn't go as far as comparing Yamamoto to Traci Guns. Traci Guns contributed nothing to GNR other than the name. Yamamoto was with the band during the Screaming Life-Louder than Love era. He bailed right before the tour, and considering the fact they really disliked his original replacement, I cant imagine Cornell really wanting him back. Besides, only old Soundgarden fans even know who the guy is, and if there were any viable Soundgarden communities, he'd probably have a few nutswingers hanging around.
There's not much info regarding the band's implosion, but it wasn't pretty. Supposedly Cornell and Shepard came to blows at their last show, but footage of this fight has never surfaced. They were at odds with one another during the recording of Down on the Upside as well.
However, no one has dissed Cornell since the breakup. Thats gotta count for something.
Cornell is intelligent though. Like Axl, when he speaks you got to pay attention to the wording. He definitely knows what "original members" means. Although he might not have felt like going into any detail so just meant there wouldn't be any new replacements.
Yamamoto did write some of the old songs, but IF a reunion happened, there's a .00001% chance that any of those tracks are performed. There would be a few key tracks from Louder than Love performed, maybe Nothing to Say or Flower also, but other than that, nothing from the old era.
The good news is that he is at least talking about Soundgarden and when you add the actual band performing together, I think good things are on the horizon.
For years none of these guys would say anything. Its a BIG reason for the Soundgarden sites all dying in the late 90s.
Re: Soundgarden
Saikin, do you have the old albums? I uploaded those for madagas recently and the links are still active.
Yeah I've got all Soundgarden albums besides their GH. I don't really have any need for that album since I like listening to each album separately.
Good point about the Tracii Guns part. I was just using him as an example for public face value really. Everyone knows the GNR lineup with Slash, very few know Tracii Guns, and even fewer would be able to identify him.
Same with Soundgarden. It's the fans that really dive into their work that realize they had a different bass player pre-Badmotorfinger. I don't think I could personally identify the guy however if I saw a picture.
It's very hard to find any information on Soundgarden breaking up. And with two of the members staying out of the public spotlight, and Cornell not giving really clear answers, it makes it even more difficult to find any info. With Cornell actually talking about it though besides just superficially, it adds some hope to a reunion.
I took his statements to mean that there would be no more replacements for any members, so if everyone wasn't on board then it wouldn't happen (and I just assumed he meant Shepard).
I have to say, I'm not a big fan of Screaming Life besides one or two songs. I like Louder than Love a lot better from that era.
