Re: Slash Basically Blaming Axl

I think that Chinese Democracy is the second best album (behind Use Your Illusion II) that Guns N' Roses have released.
Does that mean that I'm deluded and in denial?
Yeah, I don't think so.
I agree with this opinion.
The songs are good, the album sucks, they are not equal. It's not an opinion, it's a technical observation. The drum tracks sound like a drum machine, that is absolutely horrible when 2 of the best drummers were tapped for the album, that doesn't scream superiority. An album is much more than just the quality of it's songs... You really think this is the best album Axl could have made or has made?
Opinions are total bullshit anyway, they can and do change over time, so you can talk like your opinion is somehow definitive all you like, it isn't. I used to think Contraband was better than UYI 1, I don't anymore, so much for opinions.
Re: Slash Basically Blaming Axl
I think UYI II is the best GnR album. Even the "filler" has some excellent guitar work on it (Get in the Ring for example). So it has My World on it...big deal. Somehow that song has actually grown on me a little bit. I still skip it most of the time, but every once in awhile I will let it play for fun. Shotgun blues isn't very good, but I'd still put it ahead of 3/4 of CD.

You really don't understand opinions? There's no "technical observation" fact to anything to do with art.
Recording an album is not all art. If you think it was artistic expression that led to Axl paying Brian Mantia a ton of money to perform on the album so that he ended up sounding like a fucking 400 dollar drum machine, I think you're full of shit, and completely out of your mind. Having a minute long intro to a song that is all sound effect and has no musical notes, that's artistic expression, of what I haven't got a clue, but it's artistic expression none the less.
Were Axl's feedback issues back in the 90's artistic expression, or technical problems?

Re: Slash Basically Blaming Axl
Was it artistic expression for Axl to spend thousands and thousands of dollars tapping Brian Mantia to play drums, so that he could have him sound like a 400 dollar drum machine?
Posting a stupid picture won't make the question go away.
I once borrowed a 2500 dollar Les Paul to record some stuff and get a nice thick and rich sound, and when all was said and done it sounded thin and twangy like a 900 dollar Telecaster... Artistic expression, or fuck up?
Re: Slash Basically Blaming Axl
I'm still trying to figure out why I'm in denial and why I'm deluded because I think Use Your Illusion II and Chinese Democracy are better than Appetite For Destruction.
If you can't accept that other people have different opinions than your own you shouldn't really be coming to a message board.
And especially not to one dedicated to a band like Guns N' Roses.

Re: Slash Basically Blaming Axl
So you fucked up? We won't hold it against you.
So it wasn't artistic expression.
I think the next time I record something, I'll get really artsy, I'll put a spit guard on my mic, and record the vocals while in the shower.
