Wow. Guess the internet rumors were true. Strange that she was ok at first, and then started feeling bad which led to this. Obviously internal injuries of some sort.

That is strange, when I first read your post I was skeptical. Since she went home & was ok, then later checked in. As Tejas said, might have busted a blood vessel or something.

In my opinion, sounds like she may have had a stroke or an aneurysm and it somehow was perfectly timed with this accident. Like others have mentioned, she wasn't really injured and she was only advised to go to the hospital as a precaution. While she isn't technically old, she is in the age group  where strokes become a possibility.

This sounds morbid since she isn't clinically dead, but we'll know more when they do an autopsy.

Gonna have to queue up one of her films on Netflix in tribute.

My grandfather had an aneurysm burst that triggered a massive stroke around 5 years before I was born. The stroke paralyzed the right side of his body, but somehow he survived the ordeal. The odds of surviving a massive aneurysm/stroke are slim to none but he was very lucky and he has a really strong will to live I suppose. He learned to do everything left handed and he was able to walk/drive for the next 25 years or so. He's still going nearly 30 years later, though around 3 years ago they moved him to a nursing home.

I think Richardson probably had an underlying condition (possibly an aneurysm) that was building up over time and the skiing accident triggered it to burst sooner than it otherwise would have. Aneurysms and high blood pressure are a couple of silent but deadly conditions. Due to my grandfather's aneurysm, I'm probably going to have a doctor start monitoring me once I get around 30 or so.

Good points. Aneurysms are literally ticking time tombs. In fact, you can actually get one in your youth and it sit idle for decades. Can  die from old age with it never rupturing, or it can be what kills you.

No age group is immune. Back in 95, a cheerleader at Davis High died from an aneurysm. The cynic in me chalked it up to too much drugs, and for a short time I actually worried about that happening to me since I was in the middle of a heavy drug phase. While drugs themselves aren't the cause, they contribute to either plaque buildup or the thinning of your artery walls, or whatever the hell its called.

My grandfather was basically an alcoholic for a long time. Wonder if that had something to do with it in his case? I don't drink or do any kind of drugs, but I do worry about my blood pressure. When I'm able to relax, it's normal. But I usually get pretty nervous and it ends up much higher than it should be for someone my age. Pretty much everyone in my family (grandparents on both sides, parents, aunts, uncles, etc.) have been on blood pressure medicine at some point so I'm expecting that's what will happen to me.

Yeah, it probably played a huge role. Talked about this at the old site, but about seven years ago my mom had a mild stroke(known as a TIA stroke). She had been a heavy drinker for years, and even her doctor said it was probably one of the main causes of it. Luckily for her, there was no permanent damage.

That's the thing about drugs or alcohol. The people ingesting these things usually only worry about the overdose factor if they even worry at all. They don't realize that they are literally destroying their internal organs with every dose they take.

If I could go back, I wouldn't touch any dope or drink a drop of liquor. I more than likely shaved years off what would have been my natural life span.

Yeah, I learned my lesson pretty quickly. Got totally hammered the night before high school graduation, threw up all over my parents' living room floor (and my dad's recliner)...and my sister had to clean it up because I was so effed up I couldn't do anything. I still owe her for that. 16

Ever since then, once I feel a buzz coming, I stop drinking. But I've only gotten a buzz probably 5 or 6 times since then and that was nearly 5 years ago. I think I did pretty well to make it all the way through college without ever throwing up from drinking too much and without ever getting outright drunk. And now that I'm out of college, the most I've had is one drink at a restaurant or something and that is very infrequent.

Natasha Richardson to be removed from life support? Actress Natasha Richardson is being treated at Lenox Hill Hospital in New York following the accident at the luxury Mont Tremblant resort in Quebec on Monday.

The 45-year-old's family flew her there from Quebec to New York because they reportedly didn't want to take her off life support in Canada.

Natasha Richardson's sons, husband Liam Neeson and mother Vanessa Redgrave are all at her bedside in Lenox Hill Hospital after she suffered a serious head injury in a fall at the the luxury Mont Tremblant ski resort in Quebec on Monday.

There has been no official word on Richardson's condition but many outlets have reported that she has serious brain injuries. Fox News has proclaimed her "Brain Dead." There are also reports that the family plans to remove Richardson from life support today.

She was flown back to the US from Canada on Tuesday night for further treatment of what is being called a Subdural Haematoma.

A subdural hematoma (SDH) is a form of traumatic brain injury in which blood gathers within the inner meningeal layer of the dura (the outer protective covering of the brain). Subdural hematomas are usually the result of a serious head injury. When they occur in this way, it is called an "acute" subdural hematoma. Acute subdural hematomas are among the deadliest of all head injuries. The bleeding fills the brain area very rapidly, leaving little room for the brain, and are associated with brain injury.

The accident occured while Richardson was receiving private lessons on a beginners run, the Mont Tremblant resort said. After she fell and struck her head in some "soft snow," the instructor called the ski patrol for assistance.

I just read on another forum that she has been a chain smoker for most of her adult life. Can smoking lead to things like aneurysms?
