Re: Burger King launching ‘Whopper Bar’ concept
NEW YORK - Burger King Corp. will open its first Whopper Bar in Universal CityWalk, a 30-acre shopping and entertainment complex at the Universal Orlando Resort in Orlando, Fla., on Tuesday.
There won't be any alcohol but there will be meat and lots of it.
Customers can customize their Whopper, Double Whopper or Steakhouse XT burger with up to 22 different toppings, including steak sauce, smoked bacon and guacamole. Burger King workers will add the toppings in front of customers for a sushi bar-like atmosphere.
There also will be a "Bar Favorites" menu, with three new burgers from the nation's No. 2 burger chain — the Bourbon Whopper, Three-Cheese Steakhouse XT and Pepper Bacon Steakhouse XT.
Much smaller than a traditional Burger King restaurant, the Orlando location features an open kitchen and circular countertop. And breaking with the orange and red color scheme of other Burger Kings, it will be done in red, black and gray.
Burger King plans to open more Whopper Bars within six to 12 months, including one in Munich this summer and a total of six by the end of the year.
"Our vision is that this could be a 300- to 500-unit part of our overall portfolio if our thesis is right about the ability to position this as the vanguard of Burger King restaurants," said Russ Klein, president of global marketing, strategy and innovation.
Klein said he envisions the new concept in stadiums, casinos, cruise ships and other spaces where customers are looking for both food and fun.

If Arby's was doing something like this, I'd be all over it like flies on shit. Since a Whopper hasn't tasted like a Whopper since the early 90s, I think I'll pass on this concept.
Instead of adding toppings to disguise its bland taste, they should figure out how to properly cook their burgers again instead of microwaving them.

This is a good idea for some of us, that would like a Whopper with certain flavorful toppings, and not a scoopful of lard, that BK calls mayo, and are bored by ketchup and mustard.
I love the Whopper, my favorite fast food burger, but I can't do that mayo that doubles the fuckin' fat of the entire sandwich, good God.
I wish they'd let you change the meat to like a ground round or sirloin, but i'm sure the meat will be the only 'unchangable' thing.

You're a vegetarian?? Wow. I could never do it. Regardless of other meat I eat, I would be on the floor kicking and screaming if I deprived myself of my weekly french dip sandwich. Prefer them at a restaurant(The Red Steer), but the ones at Arby's will suffice.
At Arby's I always order the same thing. Haven't even tried that new burger yet....
One or two french dip sandwiches
Two Arby-Q's
Large mozzarella sticks
At Red Steer.....
French Dip sandwich(pickles and peppers on the side)
BBQ Beef sandwich
mashed potatoes and gravy
clam chowder(they only serve it on fridays)
I'm hungry(obviously). Don't feel like cooking, so I think I'll have a turkey sandwich.

Meatless is food for me. I lost weight and don't get sick like I used to. Plus, cancer flows through all sides of my family. Meat nowadays is loaded with carcinogens unless you kill and make your own. You're literally eating cancer.
I do indulge in the occasional BLT or pepperoni pizza; like once every few months. So technically I guess I'm a flexitarian.

Of course. Definitely wouldn't drive there for just one.

Yeah, my family tree is littered with cancer as well. In fact, the average life expectancy for a male in my family is early 60s, although there are a few exceptions(great grandpa lived to be 92).
I've been a meat eater my whole life so I couldn't really imagine living without it. If I did become a vegetarian, things would be difficult. While I do eat vegetables, they have to be fully cooked. I hate salad(although I can stomach taco salad), and just about all raw vegetables.
My vegetarian diet would consist of steamed broccoli, cauliflower, fried sweet potatoes, fried squash,etc. In other words, my meals would only be side dishes.

I haven't gone meatless, but like Bri, i've found alot of lost weight, and healthier options trimming back on things like fast food burgers and fried chicken breasts.
Typically a sandwich for me these days sticks to lean or extra-lean roast beef, smoked turkey, or grilled chicken with lots of uncooked vegetables.
I can do salads, which are my preference, but I just can't do the cooked vegetables without butter. Cooked vegetables without butter suck, and I don't consume butter.
Taco Salad, as James pointed out, is one of my favorites. The key is a ground round or sirloin, no cheese, lots of lettuce, bell peppers & tomotoes, a reduced fat sour cream, baked, not fried, tortilla chips.
It's pretty healthy, and delicious.
