This is too hard, obviously. I am going to allow dead people and make two different groups.
Straight Rock all-star group:
Vocals - Layne Staley (Alice in Chains, Mad Season)
Vocals, acoustic guitar - Shannon Hoon (Blind Melon)
Lead Guitar - Slash (GnR, Snakepit, Velvet Revolver)
Rhythm Guitar - Vernon Reid (Living Colour, solo records)
Bass - Billy Gould (Faith No More)
Drums - Josh Freese (every band ever)
Sax - Clarence Clemons (Springsteen)
I wouldn't usually place Layne in a dream band, despite how much I love his voice, but with Shannon there to harmonize with and write lyrics with I think it would work. I don't trust Layne to write the world's greatest lyrics but matched with Hoon, and the combo of those distinct sounds - that'd be cool. They were friends too. Too bad they were both to fucked up to do any recording together.
Group that could do a lot of things:
Vocals and lyrics - Mike Patton (Faith No More, Mr. Bungle, Tomahawk, Fantomas, Peeping Tom, Mondo Cane, etc.)
Additional Vocals and lyrics - Zach de la Rocha (Rage Against the Machine, One Day as a Lion)
Guitar - Adam Jones (TooL)
Bass - Bootsy Collins (lots of stuff)
Drums - Josh Freese (every band ever)
Keyboards and additional vocals - Roger Joseph Manning, Jr. (Jellyfish, Imperial Drag, solo work)
Producer - Trent Reznor (NIN)
Josh Freese is the only constant in both groups, and while a lot of people say he's just a good drummer who gets a lot of jobs, I believe he's one of the very best, and he can switch styles and perform at a consistently high level better than anyone else.

I was being serious. I had no idea who the other 2 guys were. I didn't even know there were only 2 other guys.

Synyster went to college for guitar and has a big influnce from Django.
What more needs to be said? the dude can tear up a guitar.
Plus he's hilarious when drunk.
O and his guitar has pimp stripes. Pimp stripes!

That would be an interesting band simply because I'm the only person in the lineup that cant play an instrument.
Interesting that Axl isn't showing up on many of these dream lists. Only way he could ever show up on a list of mine is if someone else was writing the songs.
I like his singing it's just there's so many other distinct voices i like better. Like Cornell.
