Re: U2 - Acoustic Achtung Babies
Posts from the past 24 to 36 hours were vaporized in some sort of glitch last night. Hundreds of posts were lost.
Ahhhh that sucks. Good Morning America performances were wicked. I'll dig'em up again later. Magnificent is gonna be huge on radio I think.
Re: U2 - Acoustic Achtung Babies
I would also like to add that most of U2's discography is currently on sale on Itunes. Majority of their collection is $7.99.

Re: U2 - Acoustic Achtung Babies
This album is amazing. Its been on almost constant play in my house/car. If the new Lily Allen album wasn't out, I'd be listening to U2 exclusively.
I actually think the album should have been a bit shorter. A few tracks(including the title track) just fall flat. Fez-Being Born is a few good ideas mixed in a blender and doesn't sound good at all. Using that verse from Get On Your Boots was lame. Stand Up Comedy is like the 'Scraped' of this album. Sounds really pretentious and I just cant get into the generic, pseudo positive, cheese emitting vibe in it. Get On Your Boots is just unnecessary, especially when taken into the context of the rest of the album.
No Line on the Horizon
Magnificent
Moment of Surrender
Unknown Caller
I'll Go Crazy If I Don't Go Crazy Tonight
White as Snow
Breathe
Cedars of Lebanon
Leave off the rest. I don't think it needs to be milked of singles either.
Magnificent
I'll Go Crazy If I Don't Go Crazy Tonight
White as Snow
In that order. Quit while your ahead. Cedars of Lebanon is my favorite song on the album, but I don't think it would go over well as a single. Moment of Surrender is too long. Those three singles listed would take them into late 2009 when the next album will be hitting store shelves.
Re: U2 - Acoustic Achtung Babies
A little more on week 1 sales. This article is trying to add some fuel to the U2 vs. Coldplay fire. Apparently U2's 1st week sales are gonna pale in comparison to Coldplay's. Again, I think A LOT of this has to do with the struggling economy but I know a lot of people were questioning whether the economy would have an effect on U2, as if they were immune to everything. Well apparently it has, and they're not.

U2 Vs Coldplay The Battle of the Wankers Continues
by Paul Cashmere - March 9 2009

Chris Martin`s Coldplay has delivered a deadly blow to Bono’s U2 after first week sales in Australia revealed that Viva La Viva figures had romped in over No Line On The Horizon sales.
The U2 album debuted at number one in Australia today with a not too shabby showing of 29,963 sales in the past week.
Coldplay Viva La Vida sold 41,041 units in week one in Australia. That is a major gap between the two in-battle superacts.
Bono brought the Coldplay vs U2 battle into the public arena when he called Chris Martin a wanker and a cretin a few weeks ago on the BBC.
Martin responded to Bono’s poorly chosen comments via the Australian stage in Melbourne earlier this week when he said, “I have been putting up with shit from Bono for years”.
Bono is obviously nervous that the U2 torch may be about to pass to Coldplay before he wants to let it go.
Based on sales out of Australia and projected sales for later this week in the USA, Coldplay is now more popular than U2.
No Line On The Horizon is expected to sell around 400k-450k this week in America according to Hitsdailydouble.com
Viva La Vida sold more than 700k in the first week in America.
Given the Australian ratios, the predicted U2 figure for the US looks spot on, and the world would have voted.
And let the battle continue!
Re: U2 - Acoustic Achtung Babies
Get On Your Boots was a horrific choice as first single. That certainly cost them at least a few sales from casual fans during the first week. Just the fact Magnificent sells more than Get On Your Boots tells people all they need to know about that choice. More than likely they are now regretting the choice as well.
As far as Bono vs Coldplay, I don't care about any of that. I don't listen to Coldplay, and while I am a big U2 fan and supporter, I'm not hardcore enough to care about their soap operas. All I'm interested in is them delivering kick ass albums(which they just did), and am waiting for the tour dates to be announced.

It sold almost ten thousand more copies than Chinese Democracy in the first week there.
Not too shabby.
As far as economic conditions playing a role, that's definitely a factor as well.
Re: U2 - Acoustic Achtung Babies
I figured sales would be less than expected. The economy is the main reason. It is shitty out there. First single hurts too. Boots might have been a worse first single than CD. Magnificent is the clear hit on this album. Not sure why it's not out yet.
Re: U2 - Acoustic Achtung Babies
I heard I'll Go Crazy on the radio today. Anyone know if that's the second single? It could have just been promo for them since the same radio stations announced a surprise gig in Hollywood, and they will be streaming the audio tonight at 9pm. I'll see if that radio has a link so I can post it.
As far as the whole Coldplay issue- my friend got me to listen to some Coldplay. I'm not even very acquainted with U2's back catalog, but it is obvious that these guys are U2 ripoffs. So any comparison or fight between them is meaningless since Coldplay wouldn't even have a career (much less a big one like they do) if it wasn't for U2. Coldplay can fuck off. My friend also told me he wanted to go to a concert of theirs but the cheapest tickets were $150.
The show starts at 9pm PST.
